HG Wells really did not care that much for military types but then when you had to deal with Fleet it was all you had. There were good ones, there were bad ones but mostly it was the discipline that bothered her. Her brother had always said she had a rebellious streak in her.

So Fleet wanted to send a preliminary expedition to some little M class moon and gave her a few runabouts and even less personnel. Something about some agreement that limited the number to about twenty or so. That was going to make it hard.

No fleet ship was going to be assigned, they were all to busy for a little thing like this but they had assigned a couple of Danube class runabouts with perhaps a third available. She need a captain of the fleet, if you could call it that and so far only a few names had come her way. Most officers of command experience and rank were either already assigned or had turned down such a tiny assignment. She had hopes in the next candidate on the list, one Commander Ban. An executive officer that had been scheduled to be placed on the Galileo but since there was not such ship anymore and some sort of unpleasant inquiry it seemed things were up in the air for right now.

She had gotten a simple, "if he agrees then you can have him" message when she inquired. So she had sent word and asked if he would stop by her office and she would make her proposal.

After the interviews with the Admiralty had ened, Aren had taken a much needed break. The moment that the crew had been allowed to take leave, Aren left to spend a week out in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest backpacking. It was a trip that had rejuvenated him. He returned back and enjoyed the daily grind of working in Starfleet. He was eager to be back aboard a ship. When his PADD beeped about a meeting with one HG Wells , Aren nearly deleted it. But there was something about it that had grabbed his curiosity.

Aren stood outside of her office, checking to make sure he was at the correct location. He pressed door chime, which signaled hat there was someone outside requesting entry.

"Enter," HG called and stood. These Fleet officer types were a bit on the formal side. She could do formal, but tended to be the dutiful sloppy dressed and not so formal scientific type. "Commander Ban?" she asked as she beheld the Trill. The rank on the collar was pretty much a dead give away but she had also bothered to look him up. "I am Helena Wells, but please HG, thank you for coming."

Aren entered the room, taking a quick glance to take in everything in the room before focusing on the women before him, she was striking. He nodded, a small smile touching his face. "Yes, I am Commander Ban, Aren." He said leading with the name of symbiote then his first name. "It is a pleasure HG. I will say that while your message was vague, though I am intrigued."

"Please commander have a seat." She waved a hand and took hers remembering to keep her feet off the desk and at least look a bit more serious by sitting straighter in her chair. "Thank you for coming by. I imagine that my message was pretty vague but it has been a bit busy. Anyway, Fleet is wanting to put a Class 2 intel station on a Ryn, a M class moon near Akkadia. I believe you have someone on your former or was that not quite former ship from there is that correct?"

Aren nodded. "Yes, Commander Warraquim." While it was true that he had severed with her, he didn't know her very well.

"Ah I see, well then, I have two possibly three runabouts that will be taking a bit of personnel to do some preliminary scouting, scientific and siting work. As such, since this is a Fleet thing, I need someone of command experience to officially head up the little fleet. My sources tell me that you are between assignments currently and I did get permission from your brass to ask if you might be interested."

It is hardly a fleet. He thought to himself, as he listened to her pitch. "This does sound interesting. I will be honest, I am not familiar with Commander Warraquim's people or much of there space other than that it borders Federation, Klingon, and Romulan space. I also didn't have much time to interact with her on our last...assignment. Are there any other specifics to this mission that I should be aware about? Such as total mission time, personnel, supplies, departure time...excuse me," he said catching himself, forgetting for the moment that he wasn't in a briefing room, and he was being asked if this would be something that he could assist with. "Yes, I am interested. If you have approval from Starfleet, the minute I get my detachment orders, I am all yours." Aren said, actually feeling a little excited to be back aboard a starship, even if it was only Runabouts.

HG nodded, she was pretty sure she had gotten a bite. "Approximately twenty personnel, though maybe a bit more and perhaps some rotating out. I have not gotten quite the full details. We are scheduled to depart from Earth in two days time. As far as total time, preliminary is twenty to thirty days including travel time." She kicked back in her chair. "I know, not much of an assignment, but consider that you will be in command of the first official presence of the Fleet in that region of space. Might be a footnote in the history archives but none the less...." she spread her hands wide.

Aren nodded. "Pending detachment orders, consider me on board." He said with a smile. To say that he was getting antsy about not being on a starship would be an understatement, but it also was an interesting mission.

"Very good commander. Let me know when your official orders come through and I will get you names of personnel, runabouts, docking station and all the good stuff. Sign off on that and you will be in charge."

Aren nodded as he moved to stand. "Very well. I suspect that you have already sent in the request, expect to hear back from me with in the next few hours." He said with a smile. "Thank you for this opportunity."

"You are welcome, but in turn, I really need someone as well. I will send things along. Thank you for coming commander." HG nodded and stood and held out her hand. "Tentative is departure in two days. I will send along the berths and ring location once Fleet signs off though you will get official orders from them. They have to make sure all the ts are crossed and the is dotted."

Ha! I love how HG managed to bag Ban before he even heard half the details. That moment precisely, when Ban fell back into force of habit, was really well written.
