Miraj followed the strange woman, conscious of the Reman following behind, into the sick bay of the Romulan vessel. There was nothing here that looked familiar beyond the bed. Biobeds all had the same aura of doom and gloom, whatever ship they were on. She rubbed at the arm with the implant again. The soreness hadn't gone away over the twenty four hours and a bit since it was implanted. Then she yawned. The adrenalin was beginning to wear off too, and it had been a long long day.

Allyndra waved at the bed and said, "Please, I need to get some proper scans in." She waited for Miraj to comply. As soon as she she got settled she started the scans. "This is going to take a little bit of time. Just relax or I can give you something. I need to get some real detailed scans of your brain." A thought crossed her mind and she added, "Close your eyes and if you need to talk go ahead. I am Allyndra, just concentrate one the sound of the voice."

"Theres something wrong with me, isn't there?" Miraj asked. She had closed her eyes. Relaxing was probably not going to be hard.

"Yes, there appears to be damage to certain areas of the brain. How much is affected I am not certain."

"I've been counting. There can't be that many other ships with an Orion and an Akkadian and a whatever Mimi is all in one place. I've seen three different sets now. One set of doubles might be a coincidence. But not two. And you sound like Dr. Warraquim. So it seems likely its me."

"A very logical conclusion. Alright you can sit up now and open your eyes. Remember though that you might not recognize the face but just try to concentrate on the voice, the hair...not many with blue metallic streaks in them either."

The young pilot opened her eyes and looked at the doctor. She didn't recognize the face, but she was right, blue metallic streaks, just like Allyndra. So it was likely Allyndra. "So break people into component parts. See if that helps?"

"Yes indeed," she replied.

"So everyone is here?" If she was the problem then it seemed likely, but she needed to be sure. "Is everyone okay? Luke? Lirha?"

"Everyone that was on the ship as far as I know. Luke got injured but will survive. As far as you go I am making a tentative diagnosis of prosopagnosia, an inability to recognize faces. What concerns me most is some areas that affect also affect spatial and angle concepts. It is possible that due to the nature of structure of your brain that area has not been been affected or maybe temporarily. There are indications that there has been some bleeding which has stopped but the clots might be affecting things."

Miraj's relief that Luke was alright, and no further harm had come beyond the casualties announced on the bridge earlier lifted her for a moment, and then Allyndra's prognosis smashed her back down to earth with a shock. "Visiospatial damage? You mean I can't fly?" Her voice was nothing more than a shattered whisper. She couldn't speak any louder. She could barely draw breath enough for even that little squeak.

"I do not know yet. You seem to be walking and moving alright but then those are different areas. We need to do a lot of tests yet. As I said, we do not know the extent, how much will clear on its own or if surgery will help. I will give you some medication to help dissolve the clots. Then maybe we can do some tests. However, you must realize that there is little else right now I can do and of course you will be under guard here but better than the brig."

Miraj swallowed, "I have to fly." There was an edge of panic in her voice. "I'll do whatever it takes. Take what ever it needs." She moved closer to Allyndra out of fear, and urgency and desperation. "I can't not fly."

"Until further testing is done there is nothing we can say for sure. I just need to let you know that there is a small possibility. Now the best thing is to relax and rest. Concentrate when someone comes to you on anything but a face, voice, hair, walk that sort of thing."

Miraj wasn't reassured. What if she couldn’t fly? Her life would be over. Goodbye Project Dauntless. Goodbye anything and everything she was capable of doing to any degree of competence. No flying? She'd rather be dead. She wished Chorag had cut her throat in the cargo bay. It would have been better than a life without flying.

"Alright," she said weakly. Allyndra's advice washed over her. The face issue had just paled into insignificance. She couldn’t fly? Kill her now.

"I think things will be alright, I just need to let you know the possible ramifications. Now rest a bit and then we can do some testing."

Miraj stared up at the ceiling, fat tears quivering on her eyelids. Rest would be impossible. Her life was over. "Yes doctor."
