Mission: Episode 12 - Recluse
Location: USS Galileo - Holodeck
Timeline: Md -1 1900

[ON]

Miraj jogged up to the Holodeck in her baggy lime green tracksuit. Not knowing what you needed to hunt vampires, she figured she'd go in something comfy, and change when she saw what sort of era for vampire hunting that Amarani had in mind. She had never really taken to vampires, mostly due to the lack of canon and since vampires rarely did well in the bright sunlight of the Spanish Main they didn't turn up in Pirate books as a whole.

Seeing the security officer waiting, she smiled.

When Miraj had agreed to join her for a vampire hunt, Amaranai was excited. Not just to have someone to enjoy the story with and make a friend, but there was something about the girl that Amaranai knew would look good in the outfit.

As she stood in the mirror, she took in her reflection in the tight leather outfit. Luckily, she had modified the outfit so that not only could she move easily and fight, but so that it wouldn't get hot during all of the action. And there was going to be action - one way or another.

Amaranai saw the chrono and left her quarters to meet Miraj. When the other girl arrived and Amaranai saw what she was wearing, she smiled. She noticed that the pink haired girl was looking at Amaranai's outfit and Amaranai turned to the holodeck control panel to let the other girl get a profile view.

"You look incredible." Miraj said. "Do I get the same?"

Pressing a few buttons on the panel, Amaranai turned to the girl.

"Yes," she said. "My own modified version of an outfit perfect for the hunt." She paused and stepped to a nearby replicator. Taking the clothes from it, she handed them to Miraj.

"We can go inside and you can change. The first room is ready now and we'll start when you're ready."

Miraj dissapeared for a moment into the changing room. Amarani was treated to a few grunts and gasps and the occasional sound that reminded the security officer of someone snapping a rubber glove. Then Miraj appeared again, her pink bunches seeming even brighter against the pitch black of the clothes the black catsuit hugging her curves for dear life, and open to the top of the leather corset that emphasized her waist. She seemed comfortable enough "can you tighten me up?"

Amaranai stood outside of the changing area and chuckled to herself as she heard Miraj struggle with the suit. If the two were closer friends, the brunette would have happily entered the changing room to help in the putting on of the outfit. Since they were not, Amaranai would just have to imagine what the girl looked like - for now. As she waited, Amaranai thought about the first time she had put on the outfit, wondering if she would be able to run, let alone fight. Over time - and her own modifications with the outfit - she had grown accustomed to the skin tight leather and knew that Miraj would eventually feel the same way. If she felt like doing this again.

A few minutes later, Miraj popped out of the changing area, black, skin tight outfit hugging every curve and her pink hair looking like a lone surviving flower after a nuclear holocaust.

"Beautiful," she said, though she realized she had said it aloud, instead of in her head. She coughed, slightly, and corrected herself.

"You are going to look beautiful ripping vampires apart."

She smiled and then when Miraj asked for her help, she moved closer and pulled the corset tighter, trying to make sure she had enough room to breathe.

"Just relax," Amaranai said. "The suit will conform to your body as we move through the adventure and will loosen up as necessary."

Amaranai stepped back and then opened a panel on the wall.

"Okay," she said. "Arm yourself with your weapons of choice and as much ammo as you can carry. Whatever we take is all we get."

"Its not so bad." Miraj said as she pulled a longbleather ciat over the ensemble. "Ive wriggled into exo-skins for EVA that have been worse. Nothing a fistful of lube cant cure."

The thought of using lube on Miraj gave Amaranai naughty thoughts that only encouraged her to look at the girl once more. After a moment, she moved her attention back to the weapons.

Miraj looked doubtfully at the array of ancient guns and hand to hand weapons. "The safety settings on this adventure are all switched on, right?"

Amaranai smiled as she took a katana from the wall and slid the sheath over her shoulder. She grabbed a rifle and two hand guns. She started to fill unseen pockets with ammo clips for each weapon and looked at Miraj. Without looking at the weapons, she made sure they were loaded and ready.

"Safety won't be the biggest issue," she said. "You'll actually have a set number of hit points," she paused. "I think I set it to 1000. If you go below 100, you become a vampire and you can continue attacking for the vampires or choose to quit."

Miraj pursed her lips in thought as she took the wooden stake, and clipped its holster to her belt. Then she chose a fairly medium looking automatic. It seemed a safe choice, as safe as her and guns got. Her knowledge of firearms stopped shortly before the invention of rifling. She added the gun to her belt on the opposite side the the stake, and shoved all the ammo she could fit into the coats outer pockets.

Amarani stepped away from the weapons, but then moved back and grabbed a hunting knife and one more handgun with more ammo. She was fully loaded and wondered if she would have enough.

"I've only gotten below 100 a couple of times, and that was with one person. You've got me to watch your back, so we should be alright." Another pause. "But don't waste ammo. One shot to the head and two to the chest should be enough."

Ready as she would ever be, she looked at Miraj.

"Any questions?"

The hybrid kept her opinion that Amarani might be about to experience the end game choice for a second time. "Who did you play with that time you lost?"

Amaranai had been going through one final check before opening the door when she heard the question. She chuckled.

"I was by myself. No one else to play with." She paused. "That's why I lost. I ran out of ammo as I was being swarmed. Nothing to do but let the vampires eat me alive." She visibly shook as if remembering the incident. "But that's all behind us. Now we're a team and we're going to do this."

Without waiting for any response, Amaranai pressed a button on the wall and a door slid open on the first scene.

There isn't much to see when exiting the brightness of the changing area to the streets of a small European town, circa Winter, 1899. The oil lanterns are almost out, which means it's almost midnight. As the two young women enter the street, there is a flutter of noise to the east, an alleyway as black as the night sky above them.

Miraj looked around, shivering slightly in the cold as her breath fogged on the frigid air. A pair of pidgeons were flapping hard for the sky with a frantic sense fo urgency.

"My sources have said there is a small vampire clan in this town," Amaranai said to the other girl. "We need to find it and destroy it once and for all."

Amaranai quietly pulled her first handgun from its holster and readied it for whatever was going to come.

Miraj unholstered her own. It was heavier than the flintlocks she was used to and steadied it with both hands. There was no one about. "If you were a vampire, where would you hide?"

Amaranai didn't say anything. She had run this scenario enough times to know where they were. She also knew that because it was Miraj's first time, Amaranai had changed the difficulty settings lower than normal. She liked her and didn't want to scare her away just yet.

Another rustle to the left but Amaranai ignored it for the moment. That was a distraction. A scream came from the right side and a figure pounced toward the women. Amaranai fired two shots, hitting the monster in the head with both shots.

"Whew," she said. "That ws close."

Another sound, this time from behind them.

"Look out!" she shouted.

Miraj whirled to see a man, elegantly dressed but with warped and twisted features bounding towards them in impossibly long jumps. She raised the gun and fired. The gun bucked in her hand and she knew if this had been real that the bullets would have been miles wide. Instead, the shot took him in the eye socket and burst out the bck of his head in a spray of gore that splattered brightly on the snow.

but this was a gmae and in a game, close enough was made good enough. "Yes!" she crowed as the body skidded to a halt, and she took a few light steps to get to the still form, and drove her stake into its chest. It was surpisingly soft. A moment later the body gave a sigh anf folded down into a pile of goo.

Miraj turned to Amarani. "they came from over there." she pointed to the east where the road ran out of the villiage towards the forest and the trail through the mountains. "head that way?"

Amaranai watched in pleasure as Miraj made her first kill. She recalled her first kill in the game and was glad to see that Miraj was okay. Amaranai did notice the recoil on the gun in Miraj's hands, evident that she had never used that type of weapon before. Stepping over to her, Amaranai took her hand and lifted it up as she stood behind Miraj.

"I know you don't need much of a shooting lesson," she started as her arm moved against the other girl's. "But you just want to make sure that you're steady and gripping the gun tightly." As she said this, she squeezed Miraj's hand against the gun. "Take a deep breath . . ." as she did this, she took in Miraj's scent and her eyes closed for a moment. She then remembered what they were doing and what Miraj had said.

"Yes," Amaranai said as she let go. "That does seem like a good place to start."

She started walking slowly and then looked back to Miraj and whispered.

"Firing a gun in here isn't too hard. If you're close, it will compensate. But if you don't get close, your shots will sail away. Don't get too crazy jumping around or the bullets won't know where you want them to go."

She walked a short distance and looked down at the snow. She saw what appeared to be a foot sticking out of the snow. She moved some snow and found a dead body underneath. Amaranai knelt down and checked the neck. No bite marks. But there was a hole in its chest, the size of a wooden stake.

"Not good," she said as she stood. "Someone else is here. And they're just killing people for no reason, not even vampires." She paused and started walking. "We need to get moving."

Miraj trotted after her, eyes darting everywhere now that Amarani had confirmed they could literally be attacked by anyone and everyone. "Someone else? Who else would be out here int heir undies trying to kill undead?"

The statement from Miraj was funny enough, it did seem as though they were scantily clad, though, Amaranai was grateful the leather was warm enough to keep away frostbite. But her statement was sound. She knew the program so well but had chosen to randomize the content for her adventure with Miraj, so they could both be surprised.

"Don't know," she said. "Could be another vampire hunter or just some psycho killer." She paused. The air was still, which was surprising considering the wind had been there just a moment ago.

With a flash, a figure jumped down on Amaranai, knocking her to the ground. She rolled and tried to get her weapon pointed toward whatever was on her back.

"A little help, please?" she said, hoping that Miraj would figure out how to attack the thing on top of her.

Miraj skittered forward, stake raised. "Its a vampire right?" she asked anxiously as Amarani wrestled in the snow.

"I don't care!" she yelled at the girl. "Just kill it!"

Most likely it was a vampire, but since it was behind Amaranai, she couldn't be one hundred percent. If it wasn't, oh well.

"Great!" Miraj dodged around them, trying to get a shot in. After a second, the figure's back was right in front of her and she rammed the stake home. The cloth of its coat provided some resistance, and then the tip of the wood, already stained with vampire ooze slid into flesh that gave with curious ease, and she kept shovign until she had sunk at least ten inches of hawthorne wood between its shoulder blades.

The body that had been on top of Amaranai (and not in a good way) disappeared into ooze and ash.

"Thank you," Amaranai said as she brushed off the remains of the vampire and caught her breath.

"Time to go," she said and checked her weapon again and moved on down the path.
