Location: USS Galileo- Deck 4, Science Office

[OLD]

"Participation in group work is mandatory," Nemo called out once Braxton was out of range, but not necessarily Rahl. He resisted the urge to turn and wink as he made the suggestion and kept his eyes fixed straight on the whiteboard. It seemed he had found a new hobby.

Rahl might have let Nemo's small outburst go that Braxton had stopped. However, the last one was indeed the last one. "Well petty officer since you can't seem to understand when to keep your mouth shut. It would appear you need to be educated." He hit his comm badge. "This is Lieutenant Tyton to Security. I need a Security officer in the holodeck for an arrest."

And now the continuation…

[ON]

Once outside and the door close he turned to Rahl, "As far as issues with my staff, Dr. Tyton, you will bring them to my attention in private and I will discipline if I feel necessary. You will not, I repeat, NOT threaten my staff with the brig. We will share staff when needed and work together but any staff that is in the science department is under my jurisdiction and I will work out the discipline or administer the talking to. Sound good? And please no humiliating one staff member in front of others. I asked you to step outside and if you have something to say to a staff member do it when other staff are not around. I will not stand to have anyone humiliated or dressed down in front of co-workers." He kept his voice level and matter of fact. He didn't yell, he didn't scream, he just stated.

He stood in the doorway keeping an eye on Nemo as well as ensuring the man had no escape route. Cold eyes looked to Braxton. "If this is the lax and lack of respect style of department that you run Lieutenant Braxton then perhaps that should be looked at. However the petter officer decided to be disrespectful to a superior officer in public. As such his dressing down by said superior officer will be in public. If you have an issue with that then perhaps you should train those that work under you better. I will not tolerate such things from a crewmember that believes they are high and mighty when they have absolutely no idea about the person they are trying to be rude to. As such I will be drawing up the petty officer on charges. Again if you don't like it we can take it to the Executive Officer."

Braxton sighed. "I will handle my staff. I didn't hear disrespect. All he said was that he wasn't afraid of face time with the crew. I will be speaking with the XO. Part of being a senior officer is to handle things with dignity and firmness. So perhaps I will speak with the XO about training the senior staff better in keeping their emotions in check and the who sticks and stone adage. Now please leave the meeting Doctor. I will note have further disruption." Braxton went back in.

Rahl stayed in the doorway. "Not this time, Lieutenant Braxton. You obviously didn't hear the other part of what he said after you went out the door. You obviously didn't pay attention to facial features as the remarks were being said. However, I did and I know the rest of the crew in here probably did as well. Also, I have already called for a security officer. As I am the one filing the charges I'm not going anywhere as of yet. You, of course, have every right to continue your meeting. However, I am not leaving til this part of it has been completed."

His eyes narrowed as he glared at Braxton. "As for your comment about sticks and stones. When you have been through countless engagements and have had to put your life in someone else's hands and they put their life in yours. When you have to depend on every single person around you to survive no matter the cost. Then come talk to me about that Lieutenant and then you will understand what it is to stand in my place."

T'Lin simply watched the exchange. Surak had been so correct in that emotions got in the way. She had read some of the texts and privately thought that pure Kolinahr was not what he intended, not the shedding of emotion but the controlling of emotion. She did not say a word but she listened and basically recorded all that transpired. There was no doubt in her mind that the matter would end up in the Executive Officers office and she might be counted on to bear witness.

Enthusiasm melted from Sigrid like an overheated Haark sweating on a hot Vega Colony day. Normally she would have cracked a joke or attempted to bring the meeting back to the fun interactions she was enjoying. However the tension now in the room had gotten to the point where she was uncomfortable saying anything, so she just sat there idly picking at her painted nails. After a moment though, the need to talk or say something overwhelmed her and she glared at Nemo from across the table. If she could kick him, she would. "Apologize or something," she mouthed silently to him.

Responding with an innocent expression and a shrug, Nemo mouthed "I didn't do anything." But he had, and he knew it. It was one thing to poke at a wrapped-to-tight researcher; it was another to waste the time of his fellow scientists and to maybe sort-of be partially responsible for the unease that was gripping the room. To say nothing of the fact that this had created an issue for MacKenzie, who seemed like an alright guy who didn't deserve this headache. It seemed it would be up to him to try and diffuse the situation, though he had to think of a way to do so without admitting any guilt. He held up a hand accompanied by a resigned look and mouthed the words, "Ok, ok," back over to Sigrid.

Coleman, however, did not sit idly by. She pushed her empty glass away from her and stood slowly. She smoothed the front of her white civilian jumpsuit and adjusted the belt. She then made for the door where Rahl and Braxton were blocking the exit. The 59 year old ecologist looked from Rahl to Braxton a couple times before saying, "I would like to leave now, Lieutenants."

Braxton sighed. "Okay. Listen everyone. I'm still DH so this is what's going to happen. All of you go back to work this meeting is closed for now. I will however assign homework. I want five department rules from each of you and today's incident shows me we need rules in place asap," He had a few other things they needed to do. "Also some fun ideas on what you would like to see us do as a group for bonding because we sorely need it. Everyone can go except for Nemo and myself and Dr. Tyton."

T'Lin had already formulated some ideas while watching the last of the incident and simply nodded and left. She would forward hers on later when hopefully those with less emotional control had settled.

Coleman didn't wait for another second longer before she continued past the officers and out the door without so much as a grunt let alone any parting words.

The room hadn't entirely emptied when Nemo stood and approached the two ranking officers. He spoke to both but primarily looked at Braxton. "Listen, I'm sorry if anything I might have said contributed to the disruption of this meeting. To the best of my knowledge, I was simply participating, but of course others might have innocently projected something onto my words or actions. I will happily accompany Lieutenant Rahl to the brig or anywhere else he'd like to go, where I'm sure we'll be able to clear the air."

Braxton gave a nod. "It's going to be okay Nemo. I promise you that." He'd find a way to keep that promise. He would never abandon one of his staff members.

From the back of the room, still standing by the white board, Marika softly hummed a tune to herself as she continued to adorn the board with tiny drawings and fancy lettering. One could clearly see the words teal and Tuesday besides the image of a sock, as well as the large X on it, all stylized in her own unique way. Somehow she seemed oblivious to the situation slowly coming to an end.

Eelim, being on light duty, was asked to attend the incident. He walked into the room and looked around at the four people. "Lieutenant Eelim Galan, security. How can I help?"

Rahl looked to the security officer and nodded. "Thank you for coming Lieutenant." He pointed to Nemo. "This man is to be placed under arrest and put in the brig. The charges are as follows. Under article eighty-nine disrespect towards a superior officer. Charge number two, conduct unbecoming Starfleet enlisted personnel."

Eelim looked over at Braxton.

Braxton gave Nemo a pat on the shoulder. "Go with Eelim. I'll get you out as soon as I can. Know that I believe what his happening here is wrong and I will take this as high as I have to."

He Braxton watched Nemo and Eelim go and Marika eventually drifted out. "Rahl we need to talk." He said.
