Mission: Episode 10 - Symposium
Location: USS Galileo, Calin's Personal Quarters
Timeline: MD93: 1800 Hours

[ON]

Ensign Calin returned to his quarters at the end of his shift. So far, it appeared that his roommate, Lia, was either still on duty or had elected to spend her evening elsewhere. The solace in knowing that he could spend some time meditating in the main room would have made Calin smile if not for the fact that his emotions were so deeply buried. Moving to his quarters briefly, he returned several minutes later with a small handful of saucers filled with uniquely colored oils and an electric lighter. Arranging the saucers across the coffee table with the meticulousness of a priest, he then lit each of them. Rousing aromas began to fill the room, although they were subtle enough so as not to offend Lia when she did arrive.

Once the room was properly set, Calin sat down, closed his eyes, and initiated the process of purging all thought and emotion. Not five seconds in, the chime at the door revealed that someone was waiting on the other side of that door. Opening his eyes, Calin debated on who it might be. Were it Lia, she would enter on her own volition. It could be his superior officer, Lieutenant Benice Gyce.

Searching for his new assistant, Tyrion pressed the chime and waited, not knowing yet she'd been assigned a roommate.

Withholding a sigh, the Vulcan straightened his posture, then stood up. If it were Gyce, or any superior officer, it would be better for Calin to greet them at the door rather than call them to enter.

Straightening his uniform, he thumbed the console by the door, ordering it to open.

The Betazoid blinked at the sight of a Vulcan male, where he had expected a female. "Oh," he started in surprise, "I uhm...I was looking for Ensign Circe..."

Calin glanced at the man's collar, recognizing the color as the same as Lia's; like her, he worked in intelligence on deck five. With one eyebrow raised by half a millimeter, Calin replied with a stoic, "She is not here."

"Obviously." Tyrion sighed. Great, a Vulcan... "Do you know where she is, or when she might return?"

Calin's brow rose a millimeter higher. While he felt no sense of need to be protective over Lia, the fact that the individual before him had yet to identify himself was, at least according to Vulcan considerations, quite rude. "I do not. Have you considered inquiring with the ship's computer?"

"The computer informed me she would be here," Tyrion answered, eyes narrowing. Oh how he didn't like dealing with Vulcans, they were unreadable! "And you are...."

"Ensign Calin, Security Investigations Officer," the Vulcan answered, wondering whether or not he'd find Lia's commbadge in her bedroom somewhere. Of course, he wasn't about to look. "I am, for lack of a better term, Ms. Circe's roommate. And may I inquire as to who you are?"

Great, more security. And a risk to Ensign Circe's orders from where he stood. "Ensign Tyrion Faye, Ensign Circe's superior officer." It seemed that he should've come here earlier to ask for an update, and now he was stuck with a Vulcan. A security officer. Tyrion sighed and shook his head. "I'm sorry...I'm not very good in dealing with strangers. And Ensign Circe has an assignment I need an update on."

Curious, Calin thought, relaxing his body posture. Considering that he was the Security Investigations Officer, the chance to explore Lia's character and habits in order to form a hypothesis on her current whereabouts was tempting. "You may enter. Perhaps Ensign Circe is merely delayed. Otherwise, I may be able to assist towards postulating her present whereabouts. How well do you know her, exactly?"

"We met earlier today when she reported in," Tyrion replied as he stepped inside. "I gave her an assigment and I was going to check in on her progress. It's not in any hurry it can wait until tomorrow but I thought I'd check in since I was passing by anyway."

Calin nodded, internally disappointed at the lost chance to study and further hone his investigative skills. "In that case, I can relay your message once she returns."

"No I'm afraid you can't," Tyrion answered mildly, "it's confidential and work related. No-one beyond the intelligence department is need to know, sorry." He smiled. "But compliments to you for trying to get information from me."

"Subterfuge was hardly my intent, Ensign." Calin responded, both brows furrowed at the accusation. "In that case, I will notify her of your desire to speak with her. Will that be sufficient?" He inquired.

"Oh I never said anything about subterfuge," Tyrion smiled, "sometimes information gathering is a natural event, after all isn't curiosity a Human trait? And given your profession it is something that should come naturally to you, so no subterfuge needed."

Calin found Tyrion's staccato of statements questions to be an irritation, let alone the fact that he would attempt to equate Calin to a human. But his face remained placid. "I appreciate your clarification," he said, not wishing to provoke anything further since he was still relatively new to the ship. "Now is there anything else I can do to assist you?"

Tyrion smiled pleasantly as he regarded the Vulcan. "Nah, just please let her know to update me on an assignment she's been given." He stepped back allowing the door to open. "If ever I can help security with anything just let me know, alright?"

So their peculiar meeting was about to end. Good, Calin thought. Soon he'd be able to resume his meditation, hopefully with no further interruption. "I will keep that in mind. Thank you for your time."

"No...thank you." Tyrion gestured. "Please...go back to what you were doing, I will find my way out."

Calin nodded as Tyrion left and the door closed behind him.
