Mission: Episode 09 - Empires
Location: Akkadian Fold Ship Melilu'a'kukuli
Timeline: MD 09-10 Time 1800-0600

ON:

Pain was gone. That was the first thing that Allyndra noticed. There was none and the second was that the sounds were different. There was a near quiet and none of that vibration that seemed to permeate the ship even when it was not moving.

She was afraid, afraid to open her eyes and look to see that Tuula so unlike the doctor she had come to call a friend. Pretend that was what she would do though she was certain that the inevitable scanners would give things away. A moment more, that was all she asked for.

Voices, she could hear voices but they were quiet subdued and then it struck her that they were not speaking Federation Standard but Akkadian.

"Ah, I think she is gained consciousness again, be quiet though. I shall leave you two alone." the voice said clearly but in that hushed tone..

"Thank you," came the reply and Allyndra recognized that voice. It could not be. Similar perhaps but it could not be the same. She was convinced of that until it said, "Allyndra my wave dance. You are alright and safe."

No one called her that, no one and not in that nuance that only Gerrin had. It could not be. What new torture was this her mind asked itself. To be tormented by hearing her long lost love.

She felt hands take her own hands and again that gentle voice, "Come open those beautiful blue eyes. Let me see them once more."

Allyndra complied and gasped as they focused on the face above her. The face, the eyes, the voice, the touch they were all his. "Gerrin? No it cannot be, you died, this is some more of that insanity!" She tried to tug her hands away.

"No, it is real and it is you that died," He made a wry face. "At least in this universe."

The revelation brought back that Allyndra remembered seeing the two Tuula's that somehow that the Galileo had crossed from one universe to the next. A sort of weird twist of universe where the factions of Earth seemed to be arrayed against many alien races. She had speculated what Akkadians might be like but she had never in her wildest thought that it would be that Gerrin had lived and she had not.

"Where are we?" She asked her mind still overwhelmed. "The Fold ship light dancer." He replied still gentle and those green eyes focused on her own and she could see both the sorrow and longing reflected there.

"A Fold Ship? Why? Whatever would posses you to use a Fold Ship in front of all these others. They are something......."

"Shh......" he said again with that gentle voice. "I see there are many things that we need to discuss but first off let us just be us. Come you will need refreshment and a change of clothing." He took a step back but did not let her hands go. "Come, it is alright my beloved, you have been restored and to me."

Allyndra felt a sweep of emotions. It seemed in a way surreal that her Gerrin was here. Logically she could sort of accept that this was a different place but in her hearts it seemed like an odd dream. She shifted off the bed and touched her feet to the floor. Soft slippers on her feet and she now noted that what she had on was a flight dress. The memories of so long ago swept over her again and she shuddered. It had been on Akkadia, on her matron flight while he had painted her portrait. "A flight dress?" she asked.

Watching with a burning hunger Gerrin smiled "Yes, don't you like it? Its one of yours. I always kept a handful of your things, knowing that one day you'd come back to me" He elegantly motioned his arm towards her as if introducing her to a crowd for the first time. "Now here you are, my supernova. This particular one was always my favourite."

Allyndra had kept nothing but the painting. Everything else had been too painful. She could feel the heat of his hands and her own hearts quickened but while she wanted to give in there was still a small voice that said, "this is not him, not exaclty." She smiled, "Perhaps I should make my acquantince with the Mother of the ship. This is only the third time I have ever been on a Fold Ship. We, that is in that other Akkadia, we do not use them, have not for a long time. We feared what the A'ksu came up with."

"Dangerous? Perhaps at one time the Ar'biat'atru did not think things out fully but hardly dangerous. You yourself have that within you. It was why you where being groomed to become the Guild Mother. Come though, we should make our appearance to the ship's mother." Gerrin replied and indicated the way.

Allyndra followed, looking around the ship and the Akkadians working on it. The ship was alive in a way that the one time or two that she had been on one never was. It seemed so familiar and yet different. They made their way to central corps, the middle area from which the ship's mother could see everything. The woman sitting there had her hair bobbed short, blonde with bright red streaks.

"Mother," Gerrin said quietly yet loud enough to be heard. The chair swiveled and the blonde Akkadian looked at the two of them for a moment. Gerrin made a formal bow and Allyndra went to a curtsey. The woman got out of the chair and came over and dipped even lower with her head bowed.
"Allyndra illm Warraquim," she said reverently. "Heir to House Warraquim, you are most welcome here."

Allyndra stood up straight completely puzzled. "I am Allyndra but surely you must be mistaken."

The blonde woman remained in that curtsey. "I have seen you but," she straightened herself. "However, I would not presume to disagree with an Ar'biat'atru of your stature. What is your command? Shall I fold for Akkadia?"

Allyndra shook her head, "No, not yet. Perhaps some time yet before we leave here."

The blonde woman made a dip again, "As you command Mother." She spared a glance at Gerrin. "I can understand that some time with your husband is utmost."

"Yes, yes, please." Allyndra was beginning to figure out what had happened. "Gerrin we need to talk privately."

Gerrin watched the exchange between to two woman and was both confused and delighted as to why Allyndra wouldn't want to leave immediately but if it was for the reason to spend more time with him then he would not be one to argue. "Of course" He asked trying to hide his frown as he led them to their quarters. As they reached the doors he gestured with his right arm "After you my star."

Allyndra entered the sparse quarters. The Fold Ships were not noted for luxuious quarters and there was little need for such since they could move from one place to the next in no time. She turned when he came inside and again her hearts beat fast. "Oh Gerrin, what cruel fate has brought me here? I am not your Allyndra," she said trying to get her emotions under control. "In my world, no my universe, you died. Did your Allyndra die here as well or is she waiting for you someplace?"

Watching Allyndra carefully analysing her words he shook his head "We have been given a second chance my dear, I mourned for you and prayed for the day you would come back to me. You may not be from this universe but you still are and always will be my Allyndra" He cupped her ching caressing her cheek with his thumb.

Allyndra wanted to pull away. This was not her Gerrin, not really but the touch, the look spoke otherwise to some other part of her. A swirl of emotion went over her. So many things in her head and her hear and the next thing she knew was the bite. He had then nuzzled her neck and then that bite. The deliciousness of it swam over her. How long had it been to feel another like this and she found herself returning the same. As soon as the taste of his blood hit her palate, the world and the weirdness of the situation all washed away. Her hands tugged at his clothing, she wanted to feel and taste all of him.

--

"Ah so finally awake," the words came as Allyndra opened her eyes. She stiffened as the voice came. Was this a dream or.....then she remembered that she was not on the Gallileo nor even in her own universe. The realization swept over her that she was not reliving a dream of long ago.

"Oh!" She sat up clutching the soft sheets.

As her eyes focused on the Gerrin that was so like and yet not quite her Gerrin she sighed. "This cannot be. I must return."

"Return? Why? Against odds that I am not sure even you could fathom we have a second chance. House and home await us both. What would you ever be there? A world that has nearly forgotten is glory and scratches at the surface of what once was" Gerrin sat on the bed and touched her cheek.

Allyndra felt the heat of that touch and wanted so much to melt again but she pulled back. "Because we put away to preserve the future. We almost destroyed ourselves utterly. Yes, perhaps too much, too much we forgot but consider that if we did as you do to have all that, even in my own universe how many would be jealous? How many would seek alliance or to use us against their own enemy but never really trust?"

Gerrin put his hand down. "We play one against the other. The Terrans and the Alliance have been at each others throats for generations. Your right, they are so busy with each other that the only thing that interests them is if they can use our technology to succeed a gain."

"And what would happen if one finally and utterly destroyed the other?" Allyndra asked.

"They would have no real need of us any more." Gerrin replied.

"And yet you would be a threat then. Something unpredictable, something to focus on. The technology might be great but against how many forces then arrayed against?"" Allyndra asked and pulled the questions along.

"We would not win if that was the case. Then what?" Gerrin asked.

"Instead you hide in plain sight. You have the technology, continue to advance it but on the surface you make yourselves look like nothing of import. Something not worth bothering over." Allyndra said and then smiled but the smile showed those sharp inner teeth. "You hide the past in order to......."

Gerrin finished, "preserve the future." He thought and then nodded. "A wise choice and foresighted. And you? What of Akkadia there?"

"Too much was put away, but slowly I think they are realizing that we need to find what was lost. We are too vulnerable the other way." She added.

"I suppose then we must part yet again. You to your world and me to mine." Gerrin said with sadness in his voice. "The gods a cruel, they part us and then give us but a taste of what once was."

"They can be but remember the story? The story you had me recite about the Lovers?" Allyndra asked.

"How the gods separated them putting them such that they could see but not touch, yes." There were tears in his eyes as the memory came. Tears that threatened as they threatened in her own.

"But never did their love for one another ever dim but grew brighter until it put the very gods to shame. That is the strength of our souls. The gods can be cruel but we can be stronger."

Gerrin dropped his head in a very formal way. "An Ar'bit'atru of the first order. The House Warraquim is so much less for its loss for you would have been a wise and fair Mother."

Allyndra took a deep breath at that words. She had always feared that part of her but perhaps maybe it was not to be feared, but to be embraced as being a part of her but using it to help but also to look at what could be done.

He unbowed his head and stood. "I shall let you get dressed and then we shall return you to your ship. Is there anything else my l......." he paused in his words, switching instead to, "wise Mother that you would require?"

Allyndra was about to say no but then a thought sprang into her head. The experience on the ship. "All that you have in knowledge of how we can regenerate."

Gerrin bowed, it was formal and in a way it hurt but again, he was not quite her Gerrin. "As you wish Mother." The title seemed odd and yet it did not quite sit badly either. He turned and left.
