Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 06 - 2315 hrs

Previously, on Terran Crucible (Part 5)...

"In the event we are boarded, I would suggest we have the Admiral in civilian attire... She'll be the first they go after for fleet intelligence and secret technological R&D projects," Gyce pointed out to Holiday as she locked down her station, saved her case data to her personal drive, and encrypted the rod before sticking it in her bra.

'May I make a suggestion Captain?" Keval said, "I'm not sure if we have the time to do this, but in addition to locking down our data, couldn't we manufacture some? The longer they are chasing down wild geese, the more time it gives us to keep the real stuff hidden away."

And Now, the Continuation...

Deck 3 - Sickbay

Allyndra hated to delete the work she had done already but she knew most of it in her head. That not only included the research on regeneration but the nanite interference and also her notes to science department on other ideas that she had given from time to time. Unfortunately Ensign Marikas Lenaris had the actual book and written notes. She hoped that the Terran Emprire would not consider looking for an actual book but only computer logs. She finally finished up and then stepped out into the main sickbay. While it was late she had thought to make sure most of the staff was going to be here and had sent out a call.

"Everyone ready for the inevitable boarding? Hopefully they could care less about us and will keep from hurting too many of our own compliment."

"Counselling is all locked down, patient files secured," Naois said as he approached. It was odd...one day he was still a medic and then the next he was formally reassigned to counselling. "But if we are ready for boarding, then I would say no. Are we ever ready to face a boarding party?" His left hand rested on the handle of his phaser and the poor counsellor looked utterly miserable at possibly having to use it.

"Not really," Allyndra replied. She had not armed. She could not see the use in it. If they came into sickbay with that much intent then firing would probably do more harm than good.

"I..." Tuula blushed nervously. "I haven't used a phaser since the academy. And even then, I was never any good." In truth, she had never qualified with a phaser. As a cadet, she was doing very poorly in her range qualifications. And then, the accident happened. She had to fight hard to get back into Starfleet, and managed to get an exemption on all PT and marksmanship requirements. "What's the plan if they do come into sickbay?"

Allyndra shook her head. "Not much, stay out of the way as much as possible use subterfuge. We are not much of a match for a full on one to one fight. My guess is that they will more interested in the weaponry and other aspects of the ship, that is if I remember what was given in the information. A violent people more interested in war than healing. In general the Terran Empire from what was known was generally xenophobic but who knows what the current politics are now. Might want to think about some hypos in a med kit that could drop an Earth elephant."

Ens Wilde and Crewman Tennessee both rounded the bend and entered sickbay through its door with their pitifully small bag of phasers. "Lieutenant Wyatt has sent us as apart of you security detail and repectfully asks that you take a phaser each." He said placing the bag on a chair "He also suggests setting up a disruptive forcefield so no one can unexpectedly drop in." He motioned with his hand and Ten took position at the door her arms holding the phaser steady "We'll try and stay out of your way for the time being.

Olsam was finishing up some work at a console, securing research behind the protocols that the Bridge had insisted upon, when the two security personnel entered the room. He smiled at them and bobbed his head politely as they spoke. When they finished, he tilted his head slightly to the side as if he hadn't understood a single word they said.

"Okay, I understand. Thank you. But why are you here? Are you sick or injured?" Dr. Mott asked, looking over his shoulder at his colleagues. He shrugged and gave them a funny look while nodding toward the two security staffers, indicating that he thought they might not be all there in the head. "This is main Sickbay. We treat sick people."

"Were here under orders, if things turn peachy then were prepared to defend sickbay and those sick and injured that's our main priority. I don't know if you have noticed but were currently surrounded and we dont know what will happen so were taking all precautions" Wilde's replied with a snap.

"Great," Allyndra thought. A bunch of nervous trigger fingers in a place that was to keep people healthy. It did not bode well. "I would urge you Olsam to be careful, that goes for all of us that are not Terran descent. From what I remember the Terran Empire is a xenophobic lot and do not trust anyone who is none Terran all that much. Bolarius may not may not be an ally here and as for Akkadia, there is no information what so ever that I am aware of. They might not even exist here."

Mott looked horrified. "You think they'll enslave me? Um. Well, do you think it's worth it if I try to dress like a human? I'm already missing the Bolian ridge... I could wear makeup! Get a wig. Adopt a human accent." He cleared his throat, deepened his voice. "I say, good day, old chap. Like that? It's convincing, right?" His eyes swiveled to the two security crewman and his nose wrinkled. "But I'm not carrying a phaser. I'd much rather arm myself with a hypo and laser scalpel. I'm a doctor. I kill with precision."

Allyndra had to chuckle at the attempt. It certainly relieved the dark mood that had seemed to descend on the place. "Not bad," she smiled though there was no way Mott was ever going to pass as human. "Reminds me a bit of our Mottie Malone adventure."

Olsam grinned. "I'll get 'em with the derringer I keep strapped to the my ankle."

"Mottie Malone?" Naois arched an eyebrow at the two doctors. Yet he understood their anxiety as he too experienced it. Though very blonde and blue eyed, he was clearly not Human thanks to his slanted eyebrows and pointed ears. If not for those, and a greenish hue to his skin, he could've passed for a Human. "Doctor Mott, I recommend you do carry a phaser, even if you do not intend to use it. It is better to have it and not need it, than to need one and not have it. Personally I would prefer not to use it either and Ican tell you, I am not a very good shot but I will do all I can to defend the patients here."

"You're not a very good shot? Doesn't that just increase the likelihood of collateral damage, then, if you're armed but don't know what you're doing?" Olsam asked.

"This is a science vessel, not a warship; I'm a doctor, not a security officer. We surrendered, why do I need to arm myself?" Olsam inquired, sounding a little frustrated with his colleague's insistence. "Besides, if I need to kill anyone I'm not going to do it with a phaser. I'll inject them with a lethal dose hemaplozine, which as you well know will gelatinize their bodily fluids." He produced a hypospray from his lab coat as proof. "Then dismember their body with a laser scalpel." He produced a laser scalpel from his other pocket. "And dematerialize the body parts in the replicator for maximum disposal of evidence. 'Leave no trace' isn't just an environmental slogan, Dr. Mercy. It's also the hallmark of any decent murderer."

"I agree with Olsam," replied Tuula. "Well, except about the best way to dispose of a body. The replicators keep a record of everything materialized or dematerialized. Better to use a faster-acting poison, such as a mixture of cyanide and barbiturates, and then throw the body into a plasma stream. The heat will instantly vaporize the body and destroy any evidence. And as fun as dismemberment may be, it's very messy and you don't want to leave blood stains." As she looked up, however, she realized that all the medical staff were staring at her. Between this and her prized antique bone saw, people might start to wonder.

"What I mean," clarified Tuula, "is that as doctors, we're non-combatants. Arming ourselves could endanger our non-combatant status, not to mention the fact that some of us aren't very good with a phaser to begin with."

Wilde shook her head as the doctors explained their rather brutish and medieval murder tactics. "I would like to point out that under Protocol 1 from Article 42 to 50 states that Non-Combatant's maybe armed and the term 'non-combatant' does not mean you cant fire or will not carry a weapon. It does mean however you are not directly taking part a hostile action unless for preserving your own life of the life's of hose under you care."

She paused "As officers in the federation I assume you know this and that under Article 3 that in the cases of conflict that is not of an foreign/first contact by nature which is a conflict happening outside of the jurisdiction of federation by means of lets say being in the mirror universe for example means that the laws that would usually prohibit an enemy force from capturing, torturing, humiliating, degrading and killing you" She put her hand to her mouth and in a lower whisper before returning to her normal voice "Which you all just said how you would kill someone by boiling them or whatever It was in a cauldron like some children's story book" She took a breath her face turning a very pale angry crimson

"Which we can take a pretty good guess from previous encounters of the Mirror universe that those of an xeno nature" She looked at the none human's in the room. "Will be ,regardless of role be treated unjust." Despite her speech she still wasn't finished "And finally you have all passed through training in starfleet and unless you've lost your hands since then I assume you all would have undergone the starfleet range package which trains you in the use of using and firing a hand phaser... So on that note please take a phaser. I don't care if you don't fire it, I don't care if you cant shoot it, we are surrounded, we are in a very hostile situation and some of us may not make it."

Allyndra found it amusing listening to the various ideas to dispose of bodies. She hoped it did not come down to that. Finally she stepped into the fray and took a hand phaser and put it on. "Go ahead and take one. We will probably all be disarmed soon enough and if we offer little resistance will not draw the ire quite as much. We have our other tricks do we not?" She reached to tap the hypo in Motts pocket and then smiled showing briefly those very sharp inner teeth.

Tuula glared up at Allyndra, wondering what this whole situation was coming to. "I'm not touching that thing," she said in a firm tone, clutching her wheels and not reaching for Ensign Wilde's little bag of phasers. "I'm a doctor, not a guerilla. And I haven't been certified to use a phaser since, well, ever."
