ON:

Eyes slowly opening. At first there was nothing but white and a skull-crushing headache. Then, the end became so clear, the edges of Nevedno's vision slowly filtering out the blinding light just feet above his head. Medical implements and the cold walls of a lab slowly creeped in from the sides, moving in from all angles until the center of his vision was surrounded by that which he feared most. That which he had escaped so long ago. He was back on the operating table.

How she had found him and how she had subdued his pheromones was simply beyond him. How could the mad doctor have found him tucked away in that corner. How could she even begin to remember what had caused her attack? Where to even start? He was a ghost. A figment. Nothing more than a glitch in the space-time continuum. But now here he was on a table surrounded by the past. A past that was slowly becoming the inevitable end of his future.

He couldn't move. He couldn't look from side to side. It was so quiet. Dead quiet. Everything beyond the edges remained unseen, but even without sight he could see it. Feel it. The doctor was in.

“Doctor Human,” he began in a calm voice, talking up to the light. “You are toying with biology best left forgotten or destroyed. Either let me go now or terminate me whole, but you would be smart to not explore any other options.”

"Oh, but you're such a fascinating subject," replied Tuula as she stepped forwards to stand over him. "One of a kind," she added, flicking her laser scalpel on and off in front of Nevedno for emphasis, "And I have to find out just what makes you tick."

Tick. Flick. Tick. Flick. Counting down. Each flick reminded Nevedno of the many past surgeries that had been inflicted upon him and his abominable kindred. Cuts upon his body. Cuts upon his brood. Like the innumerable pre-autopsies inflicted upon him and his vile offpsring all for the sake of perfecting some terrible curse disguised as a bio-weapon. It was all about to happen again.

None of a kind would be preferable,” Nevendo barked back, his attitude changing fast from stoic calm to a hatred reserved for cursed men and the gods that created them. “My time is now at an end. No more ticking! To pick up the clock beyond this moment is a curse worse than death. Borrowed time. Those who came before you made no progress at all as will you not. Let me die or suffer unfathomable pain. I ask you once more to kill me now,” he stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Oh, but I can learn much more by keeping you alive," replied Tuula, acid in her voice for the one who attacked her. He would pay fifty-fold in pain for his attack before she would let him die. Excited about the pain and suffering she was about to inflict, Tuula could barely contain her joy in anticipation of bring the laser scalpel down into his skin. "This gland of yours is most fascinating... number fifty-four."

"You know nothing of it and you will know nothing of it," Nevedno shouted as he began to fight with his bindings. "A whole team of scientists and many created and butchered offspring later, many failed test subjects later, and they never were able to duplicate this gland and have it work in another host. It is a one of a kind curse not meant for anyone other than my horrid self!"

"Ooooh, a challenge..." Tuula let out a maniacal grin as she flicked on her laser scalpel. Her entire body was tingling in anticipation; holding the medical instrument so close to the restrained patient gave her a certain sense of arousal which was overpowering. "I'm going to enjoy this..."

Was this it? Was this the end of the monster? Surely upon his death the universe itself would sigh in relief. Like the collective life energies within would somehow feel more at ease once this unfortunately created monstrosity ceased to exist. Punished for all the sick and twisted things he had done.

But he wouldn't give it that sense of satisfaction. As death walked towards him he could barely contain a grin from forming on his face. He was being set free from his torment, he would no longer suffer. He would be happy in his final moments. But more importantly, and this made him giddy enough to bite his lip to restrain a full fledged smirk from crossing his lips, was that even in his death they would suffer.

She was brilliant. She was driven. She was a monster more than perhaps even himself. If anyone could make his gland work somewhere else, even if it happened to be his own, it would be her. And then they would suffer more. To inherit the gland that had ruined his existence would be to damn the receiver to the same fate. A fate worse than death. And then the pain and torture would spread once more amongst them. The selfishness of humanity would damn them to suffer forever more.

As the human brought the surgical tool that would remove him from the coil of mortality towards his torso the last thing Nevedno did was show her a smile of sickening satisfaction.

The rest of the procedure, however, was not as pleasant...
