Mission: Episode 08 - NIMBUS
Location: USS Galileo - Arboretum
Timeline: MD2 - 0900

ON:

The morning had been interesting with teaching Win on the Holodeck. She loved him but not in that way. It was something she specifically avoided. Still it had brought up feelings about the way she and Lamar had parted from the dinner and so she had vowed to see how things stood with the two of them.

She had figured to meet in one of her favourite places but it was also where they had first met as well. There was food, a picnic basket, but the fare was light mostly just what she had figured that would work with humans. Still the smell of her fresh baked croissants wafted from the cloth covered basket. She had not changed from this morning and still wore that light flight dress. The lake or large pond beckoned her and she decided she had a little time to water dance before he arrived.

The arboretum doors swished open and in stepped Lamar with a rather grungy uniform on. He had somehow managed to sneak away from the shuttlebay for a couple hours to meet his girlfriend, but not before getting knee-deep in the maintenance hatches of two of Galileo's support craft which had left him and his uniform a bit sweaty and wrinkled. As he began to walk into the large room, he looked around at the always-pleasant floral gardens and inhaled a deep breath of the scented air. His dark eyes glanced around the open expanse and eventually sighted Allyndra who was hovering over the pond in an elegant manner while her wings beat swiftly to keep her just above the water.

"Hey," he called out with a smile as he approached, happy to see her well and in good spirits.

Allyndra waved and hovered moved to the shore. She landed lightly and then almost ran but it was awift walk and launched herself at him. "Hmmm.......I have missed you and..." she took a deep breath, "there is nothing like smell of a hard working man." She then kissed him.

He grinned and closed his eyes to give her a deep kiss in return, and wrapped her arms around her slim waist and stroked her back. "I missed you too," he said. "How've you been? I feel like it's been forever since we last saw each other."

"I have been well but so lonely," Allydnra admitted. She then looked into his dark eyes, "I have been worried that you were no longer interested. We did not seem to part on a high note." The words were honest and direct. While she enjoyed his arms around her now, she needed to know where they stood.

Still holding her with his arms now wrapped around her waist, he looked into her jeweled eyes and gave an apologetic and weak smile as best he could muster. "I'm still interested...very. I think I just felt like you might not have wanted to see me after what happened with Rowe," he started to explain. "I don't know, I thought you were probably upset at me even though you didn't say you were, so I got all weird about it..." he mumbled.

Allyndra was not exactly. She had tried to explain but that was not a place to go to right now. Right now was about the two of them. "Shh..." She touched his lips with one finger.

"This is about starting over, about us and the past is the past. We have a saying that we put away the past in order to preserve the future." She smiled and winked and then added, "I have been working on improving my cooking with the help of Doctor Mott as my taster. He says it is getting quite good. Come," Allyndra disengaged his arms but took his hand. "It would give me great pleasure to see what you think."

"Can't say no to that," mumbled Lamar. He was quite happy to take her cooking concoctions, but hoped she hadn't been spending too much time around Mott. From what he knew of Bolians, they'd eat practically anything and call it tasty, including some of the more unorthodox foods in the galaxy. "What did you make?" he curiously asked while he walked with her.

"Oh nothing real fancy. I have Cambert and Brie for snacking, A Port and Olive Bread that I made along with sliced ham, then there are Palmiers of strawberry jam and some of cinnamon and sugar. I also have Beaujolis as a drink pairing." Allyndra made a shy little look, "Unfortunately since we are technically on mission, with synthol instead of alcohol. Come on.. and I will tell you about my drinking contest with the Klingons!"

Sounds...French, the warrant officer thought to himself after listening to the variety of dishes Allyndra had mentioned. Not that he had a problem with French food. They made some of the best pastries on Earth, but he wasn't quite convinced yet about the sandwiches until he tried them. The mention of a drinking competition with Klingons was pretty intriguing as well, and immediately sparked his interest. "You did what with Klingons?" he couldn't help but wonder out loud.

Allyndra laughed lightly as she saw the slight expression cross Lamar's face. "Oh, don't worry, I also made something called a cheesesteak. It is supposedly native to your home town ... come on." She got settled and poured them both a cup of the light wine. "Anyway, yes, there was a group at the dinner that was having a drinking contest and it was wonderful vintage of Bloodwine." Allyndra looked over her glass pointedly, "and you should know me enough by now to know how I like that."

"I hear bloodwine is pretty strong..." he said with raised eyebrows before taking a small drink from the glass she had poured him. "Like really strong." He stopped and furrowed his brow for a quick second. "So did you win? Or did everyone just get drunk and pass out? Or start fighting?"

Allyndra undid the insulated wrapping around the thing called cheese steak. She had no idea why it was called that exactly since it was not exactly steak but that was a puzzle for another time. As she handed it over to Lamar with the steam still rising from it she smiled. "Oh it is. However, I have built up a good tolerance for the drink over time. One of my favourite beverages. Anyway, the later, mostly we all sang, got drunk and passed out."

She shook her head, "And no I did not win. However, I impressed the Klingons enough that they considered me at least on equal basis." She then shrugged, "Maybe next time, but then I don't have the body mass to soak up the drink as well." She nodded her chin toward the sandwhich, "How did I do?"

"Not sure, I'll let you know once I've had a few bites," he answered, looking at the sandwich and inspecting it. "Yeah, Klingons are a little on the big side. I wonder how much of that stuff they go through on an average deployment. Might be worth going into the bloodwine business on Qo'nos," he joked, then took a few chomps out of the cheese steak. It wasn't too bad, he admitted to himself, and it definitely helped that it was still warm and a bit sloppy. "..I like it.." he mumbled in between bites with approval.

Allyndra took a napkin and dabbed at the corner of his mouth. "You look like you just bit into a too ripe Tanya fruit," she teased. She paused and shifted closer then kissed him, licking the bits of cheese off. "I missed you so much."

He grinned at her and took a few more healthy bites of the sandwich. It was actually really good, now that he thought about it some more, and though it wasn't the same taste as the replicated version, it was vastly superior in his opinion. "I missed you too," he said in between chomps. "How's the wargame prep coming along?" he then asked. "Everything good in sickbay?"

Allyndra shrugged, "I hope so. Hopefully Mott and the Shirley...that is the new EMH's nickname, have not strangled or shorted, depending each other. No, if you have not heard I am temporarily the first officer." Allyndra made a quirkly look and then said with mock seriousness, "I suppose then I should console you about officer enlisted relationships. So there, consider it done and now where were we?"

"First officer, huh? Well yeah, I guess that makes it a bit weird," he laughed. "Does that mean I get a promotion?" he teased, nudging her lightly in the ribs in jest. "Lieutenant Darius has a good ring to it."

"I shall make the recommendation to the Captain," Allyndra replied. "Of course considering we are both in temporary positions I can not guarantee it will hold." She canted her head and looked at him, "I must say Command Master Chief Darius does have a nice ring to it. What do you think?"

Chief of the Boat. Lamar had been there and done that previously, and he actually had enjoyed the position. It wasn't quite as exciting as flight control work, but it gave him the chance to interact with the crew a bit more on a daily basis, especially the rest of the NCOs on board. "Well, if I go back to being COB, then who is going to work on our shuttles? And what about Quinn?"

"Oh you are getting all technical. As I said, I am only temporary as is Stace. If I thought I really could do it then I would. I hope your not really upset that I don't really have the authority?" Allyndra felt that heaviness descend on her again. Why did she always make so many missteps with others.

"I'm just playing. A joke," he said after realizing she took his parody a bit too much to heart. "Actually...I don't think I'd make a good officer. For some reason I always got along better with the enlisted guys than the commissioned ones. Less false-entitlement and attitude, I guess," he shrugged, then took more bites from his cheesesteak before realizing his comment could have been taken the wrong way. "Well not you, of course. I meant other officers..." he tried to clarify.

Allyndra nodded and felt relieved. "All my early days on Akkadia we spent in rigid hierarchy. Everyone had their place, but somehow being away from that I do not care for it so much." She made an odd shrug and wiped his mouth again. "I guess it left me being both too formal on one hand and yet wanting to be away from it on the other. That is why I do not allow formality in sickbay unless needed." She winked suddenly, "Well then I guess it is only Allyndra and Lamar and the heck with ranks and titles."

"Can't argue with that," he mumbled with a mouthful of the final pieces of his sandwich which he was now finishing chewing. "I think you're coming along pretty good with your cooking. Whatever that Bolian is teaching you, seems to be working," he complimented.

"Thank you," Allyndra made a little nod of the head. "He is my taster. It is fun to cook, I enjoy the smells and sight but it is frustrating as well that I can not savour too much. Ah well," she shrugged, "nature made us what we are. Still...." She loosened the band that held her hair. "There are still things nature did fit us that we both can enjoy."

He raised his eyebrows at the suggestive nature of her comment. "Yeah...nature is funny like that. Humanoids and stuff." He looked her over and suddenly felt an urge to make love to her despite still being a bit hungry. Perhaps one of their quarters would be better, however, and he had no desire to get caught fornicating behind a tree only hours before an important training exercise. "When we get finished here, I guess I can spare a few minutes for some fun," he offered.

Allyndra smiled, "Just a few? Well then I guess it will have to do. Now then, you have to try a dessert before dessert."

Dessert before dessert. Lamar liked the sound of that. "You said a bunch of French things earlier...is it a pastry?" he wondered out loud, happy to taste what was well-known on Earth as some of the best delicatessens on the planet.

"Oh yes," Allyndra replied and turned to the basket. "Palmiers, a sort of puffed pastry and filled. I have strawberry and cinnamon sugar ones which first?" She asked.

"Your choice," he offered, not wanting to steal her thunder. Whichever one she thought best to try first, he was happy to taste. There were few desserts he had ever come across that he actively disliked, and he was pretty confident they would both be delicious.

"Oh let's try the strawberry. Either one I can actually enjoy the filling," Allyndra turned to fetch the pastries. She handed one over and took one tearing off a corner and squeezing a bit of the filing out. "Hmmm......still warm."

"Mmhmm," he agreed, now munching on one and enjoying the sweet flavor. A few more bites ensued -- rather large ones -- and before he knew it, he had finished the stuffed dessert cake-thing and was licking the remains from his fingertips. "Not bad...actually, it was great!" he complimented.

"Good, then the next one should be alright." Allyndra got a cinnamon sugar one and handed it over. "Might be a bit sweet, I do like sweet things." As she handed it over she brushed his cheek with her lips. "Maybe why I like you so much, enjoy."

A flattering compliment, no doubt. Lamar had never considered himself to be the 'sweet' type, but maybe that was only because most of his past girlfriends had been Human or at least half. Giving her wink, he then began to sample the rest of her cakes.

Allyndra took a bit and licked the sweet stuff but in a very provocative way. She had plans for her man before duty called.
