Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: USS Galileo: Main Engineering
Timeline: MD 6 :: 1305 Hrs

ON

Once Gyce had reported in to the XO, her next stop was main engineering. Despite that fact it was shore leave for the crew, the engineers typically left later than the rest of the lot.

So before doing anything else, Gyce with her messenger bag in tow, made her way slowly to main engineering. There, she entered the room and stood off to the side. One engineer looked like the rest, on the surface.

But Gyce was a reader of sorts. The computer nerds of the group typically had their own mannerisms. More withdrawn from the group, than the typical engineer. But with the hustle and bustle of personnel, it was hard to catch those specifics.

The only thing she was left with was waiting patiently until an engineer saw her. Once more, straightening her tactical vest, from walking so much.

Asahi had spent most of the day flitting about and preparing for decontamination, a process he knew to be absolutely necessary. However, the last time he had to deal with a decontamination team, he nearly had to put half of the ship back together. It was not a fun week for the engineering crew.

But, Asahi took the down sides of working on a science vessel over having to deal with running a department three times the size of the Galileo's any day.

He had stopped when he noticed the yellow-shirted woman making a beeline for him, PADD in hand. His immediate reaction was to glance down at the device in his hand, eying his departmental roster and searching for a new name. Furrowing his brow, the short engineer glanced back up toward the woman, a polite smile pressing against his lips. "... Can I help you?"

"Lieutenant Benice," Gyce spoke with a warm smile. "I was looking for an engineer, who is not busy, that could network my personal computer to the ship. Mostly so that I can access the surveillance feeds when my boss needs to use the office."

"Nice to meet you, but you're gonna have a problem with that one." Asahi chuckled, shrugging toward the rest of his team. "If they aren't ready to go on shore leave, I've put them to work. Lieutenant Kita, by the way. I run Engineering."

A thoughtful frown crossed his expression. "Though, for something like that, we'll have to verify with Lietuenant Wyatt that it won't step a bound... and I can't imagine the brass won't wanna hear about it. I'd be more than happy to help where I can, though."

"As am I," Gyce offered with a bright smile. "I know when system diagnostics occur, things tend to go missing all over ships of this size."

"They do. It makes things worse when the team behind decon might not be the most... courteous." Asahi huffed, gesturing toward the nearest pair of seats, plopping down in one himself. "So tell me a little bit more about this idea of yours? Surveillance feeds outside of the security office? How extensive were you thinking?"

"No no," Gyce smiled, and nearly laughed at the fluff. "Nothing concrete yet. Though I will be doing that research. I could use some help though in locating blind spots throughout the surveillance system."

Benice paused for only a moment, then added, "I just need to be able to access the security office's surveillance feeds, so that a constant security presence is available, watching the feeds of vital locations - as security personnel are always supposed to be doing."

Asahi pulled up a small note-taking program in his PADD, setting it to one side and nodding. "Blind spots, huh? There can't be many of those, can there?" He never had to take a look at the ship's surveillance equipment to know exactly how they worked, but he couldn't have imagined that they were unsuitable for monitoring purposes. Luke would have addressed that by now, he assumed. "That might be something that requires a certain security clearance level-not that I need to be telling you that, of course-but it is certainly doable. I'd have to take a look at your systems, see how they work, and how to connect them to a PADD."

Pausing, Asahi frowned. "After we speak with Lieutenant Wyatt on the matter, of course. We might have to catch him before shore leave, I don't know what he has planned."

"I haven't been able to track everyone down yet, sadly. I was lucky to find both the XO and one of your doctors," Gyce admitted with a half grin. "Should we summon him here, maybe?"

Asahi quirked a brow. Somehow, the fact that everyone seemed to be more elusive than a group of Klingons around Tribbles didn't surprise him at all. "We could try, but I'm not sure where he is myself. Would you care to do the honors?"

=^= Lieutenant Wyatt? I'm your new Security Investigations Officer, Lieutenant Benice. Would you mind coming to engineering for a bit, Sir? =^=

Gyce waited patiently for Luke to answer. She hopped he was still aboard.

Luke stopped dead in his tracks, sweat beads spotted his brow and ran down his cheeky as damp patches formed on his light grey shirt with the SFMC logo stamped above his heart in black. "I'm changing my name" He said aloud knowing no-one was around to agree with him =^=Is it imperative I be there Lieutenant?=^= He asked already making his way to engineering being on the same deck it wouldn't take a moments thought.

Gyce's answer was almost instant. "Yes Sir. I need your authorization for a few things, actually."

Jogging through the doors to engineering he didn't reply to her message via the comm and instead walked up behind them "What can I help you with lieutenant." He said slightly louder through breaths as he sucked in the artificial oxygen.

That was a long story, Gyce knew. So many things on her list and all of them the XO decided was up to Luke to decide on. Her eyes darted from Luke, and then to the CEO for a second. And like always, she took a deep breath before proceeding.

"I reported in with Commander Blake and she said that any investigations I feel I need to run, need to be approved by you," Gyce began with. "And in order for me to best do my job, I would like your permission to have my personal computer linked to the surveillance computers in the brig, so that I can monitor crucial areas, when you or another other security officer needs to utilize the office."

Dare she point out the Romulan problem, with the CEO around? Gyce did not think that would be a bright idea. Unless of course she made it understood that not even she was certain of Seleya was in fact, a threat to the ship. For even an aired suspicion could be taken the wrong way and move like wildfire through a ship this small.

Luke studied the woman now presented in front of her she was clearly a Bajoran with the nose ridges and Gold ear piece. "And you wouldn't just be using the privilege for your own twisted personal reason no?" He teased and gave a courteous nod to Asahi.

"I told Commander Blake I would be objective in my security sweeps," Gyce informed with a half-grin. She was not entirely sure if he was joking or not. "To that end, I have a full list of security checks I wish to perform while the crew are on shore leave. Such as checking for any blind spots with the cameras, and checking to see the controlled substances in sickbay and the science labs are as they should be... In theory, it is probably best I do that while everyone is off having fun, rather than stressed about unannounced security checks."

"While everyone is off having fun?" He asked confused. Was this new woman saying she wasn't going on take a shoreleave. "Why wont you be off having fun?" He asked finally seeking the answers to his question.

Asahi watched the two go back and forth, brow raising as the conversation continued. While he appreciated being consulted on this matter, he was puzzled as to why he was consulted before Luke had been consulted. Nodding toward Luke, the engineer merely smiled.

"My month's wait consisted of a kid breaking my wrist because he wasn't watching where he was going," Gyce admitted dryly. "I've had my fill of relaxing for the year. So I am more than anxious to get back to my work, Sir."

Luke processed the moment and looked to the engineer standing and smiling at the situation before he looked back to the woman. "Ok, Ok. But I dont wan't you working yourself silly over this especially since there will be no one to report to. The entire crew is away so you'll have the run of the ship mostly to yourself." He paused for a moment "I'll leave you in charge of security in our absence and allow you to use your own judgement on the CCTV situation my only request is you limit it to area's such as the corridors, mess hall and basically anywhere that people don't consider as a private location this also includes the Captains ready room, the bridge and my office." He said firmly this wasn't a request it was an order.

"I can abide by that," Gyce promised and passed her computer to Kita. "And for the record, Sirs? I never use the surveillance systems to pry into areas considered Private. If I ever saw a need to do so, I would be seeking command level approval. Corridors, engineering, mess halls.... any place that sees heavy traffic. Though I would like to install a few cameras pointed directly at every ordinance storage and firearms locker, Sirs."

Luke nodded, "I already feel safer." He turned to Kita and smiled, "If you don't mind tasking someone to help her I don't see any need to push this matter any further?"

Everything seemed to be in order, according to the Security-unsavvy engineer. He nodded, looking over the documents on the PADD. "High traffic areas shouldn't be too difficult to install things like this on. This shouldn't be difficult at all. I should be around on the Starbase, so we'll get it done."

Luke nodded "Perfect I will leave this in you capable hands eh?" He said encouragingly and stuck out his hand "It was good to meet you Miss Gyce" He finally said with a sparkle of a smile.

"But I will need my computer installed with a CCTV direct-link program," Gyce reminded both of them as she pointed to her PC. "That way I can look at the feeds, no matter where I am, on the ship."

"Of course." Asahi already had his own PADD in hand, calling up the specs for the security feeds. "... er, Lieutenant Wyatt, it might be something to talk about later, but if we manage to go through with this, some of the other security officers may want access as well. Obviously not my call, but I thought I'd point it out while it was in my head."

"Thats is not my decision, leave this with Lieutenant Gyce she has full control over the project so therefore any and all request will be decided by her just ensure I receive a weekly update and I will be happy"

Nodding, the engineer returned his gaze to the Bajoran officer. "And Lieutenant Gyce, I'll need some quality time with these specs, but it shouldn't take me more than a few days to work out an edited blueprint for the technological end of this." He continued his thoughts in a series of small mumbles, mainly about how he was going to go about the whole thing.

"It's Lieutenant Benice," Gyce reminded him with a smile. "Gyce is my given name. But I shall be roaming the ship, checking for blind spots as well. If I see anything else, I'll make recommendations then."

"Ah..." Bajoran names, who knew? Asahi made a note to attempt to remember that, though, with the security officer's luck, she'd be 'Lieutenant Waddle Cane' by the end of the day. "I'll be about, let me know what you find."

"Thank you. Both of you," Gyce ended with a huge sigh of relief.
