ON:

Amynta let out a breath as she looked over the files. The...well, murder report. Because it had been a murder. Calling it less than that was just an insult. With the Cardassian plot as well, her own personal relationship with Alexion and poor Red...Amynta needed to distract herself. So when she had come in she had just...started this. Because she needed to immerse herself in something else. But doing this made her miss Siren Hex more; the woman she'd bounce off ideas from. Her Assistant Chief had just given birth, so she was useless. And the files would...well.

She would never include Faye in this. She didn't trust him.

She watched the holoscans of the murder scene, tilting her head as she reached for the coffee. Looking at it, at the dead man lying there...

It all unsettled her. Just didn't make much sense for her. She put the cup down and stood, stretching a bit. The victim had been stabbed, had clearly known the assailant. It had been a surprise, a person to get that close. It was more and more clear to Amynta that the victim, this Tyrek, didn't want to fight.

And that worried her.

She moved to turn on the small holo-emitter used for 3D maps, biting her lip as she considered it. "Computer, feed the information from the coroner's report on Lieutenant Tyrek into the holo-emitter. Have him standing and highlight the stab wounds," she said, gently pushing a tribble away with her foot.

As the image came, the shadowed outline of a man with the orange marks on him, Amynta sat down. She removed her uniform jacket, revealing the not regulation black satin top she had under it. "Computer, based on the data available, can you work out the height of the assailant?"

The height is 5'10".

Amynta nodded, rubbing her neck as she consider. She looked at the PADD with the report. Because of the location of the murder scene, a lab, a lot DNA had been collected from the crime scene. Too much to narrow down the list of suspects. "Computer, based on the crew manifest of the Chesapeake, how many crewmembers are of that height?"

Based on the current manifest, we have 32 individuals.

Amynta frowned at that, looking over at the list. She stopped, watching the list. "Computer, give me a list based on the duty shifts of individuals without an alibi or any camera footage of that time."

There are no matches.

Amynta rubbed her neck, considering it for a moment. "Okay...okay, that's..." she stopped, her eyes narrowing. "Computer, run the same scans, using the Chesapeake manifest from 2389."

There are four matches.

She looked at the list, taking a deeper breath before touching the name of Tyrion Faye. There was the Security officer who investigated it, Johnson, too on the list. He had been a prime suspect for a bit. There was another person, but their alibi had later been established. The other person, an Ensign Hale, had been interviewed and been a suspect for a bit, until it was discovered that there was no traces of his DNA in the lab. He had belonged to Operations and therefore never ventured there. Faye, however... "Computer, was Faye interviewed by the Chesapeake?"

Ensign Faye was interviewed and given trauma counselling after the assault.

Amynta stopped, standing and moving back to her desk, finding the report. The counsellor in charge of Faye's care described how devastated he was. How broken. How psychological fragile. No one considered him a threat to anyone but himself. This was why he had been so well taken care of.

And Amynta didn't like that. There was something not quite right. She got the files up again, watching them, frowning...and then she stopped. And she felt the cold down her spine.

"Son of a bitch..." she breathed, pulling back and moving to the hologram again. "Computer, put in Ensign Faye as the killer. Play out the scenario that ends with his injuries and the injuries of Lieutenant Tyrek."

Processing.

Amynta watched the two shadowed figure play it out. The lack of fighting, the stab. She tilted her head, frowning. "He loved him," she whispered, seeing the way the shadow meant to be Tyrek hugging the other shadow. That was why he hadn't fought back. He hadn't had the time, hadn't realised, because he had loved the man who had killed him. And never, ever suspected it. Naive. And Faye's injuries could have been self-inflicted. It explained a lot. A counsellor's verdict had eliminated him as a suspect. Truth was, Amynta didn't trust anyone and found no excuse quite worth its salt.

She knew that she couldn't do anymore. She had to take it further. Someone had to. And she had no choice. "Command needs to know..." she said, shaking her head with annoyance. "As if I didn't have enough on with the tribbles and the spies."
