Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo: Deck 4, Chief Science Officer's Office
Timeline: MD 06 - 1000 hrs

ON:

Jaana stepped over another tribble on her way to the office of the Science Chief. She arrived a few hours ago and after quickly unpacking. Her stomach was rumbling, but she already ate her breakfast on the shuttle. She had to keep it up until lunch, or another attempt at loosing some weight had failed.

She stood in front of the office, straightened her jacket followed by flattening her hair before announcing her arrival.

"Come in," Stace called out from behind her desk. In truth, she hadn't looked at any work in over an hour but had stolen away from the labs, leaving Kohl in charge, just to sit down in an arena of quietness. Stace had only spent one night (as punishment) in Wyatt's enlisted quarters, and had only undertaken one of the blistering routines he had set out as physical training. And all in the name of discipline. But Stace was truly wiped out already. She shifted in her office chair and groaned a little as she tried to right herself as the doors opened. Her green eyes flashed at the blonde woman as she stepped into her domain. Stace's eyes unfortunately rolled as she then clasped the edge of the desk to heave her slight, but now seemingly rock-weighted, frame up from her chair.

"Ensign Voutilainen, I presume," she remarked, nodding to her with a wince. "You'll excuse my current condition. I think I slept funny last night."

"That is correct." Jaana said. She thought a moment and then asked. "You should take some coffee with extra sugar. That always helps me if I can't wake up."

Stace's quadriceps suddenly raged at her, shooting a dull ache through her entire as she moaned outwardly. "I'm fully awake, Ensign," she confirmed, slumping back in her chair. "But thanks for the suggestion. I might take that up later this afternoon." She leant forward and then offered the chair opposite her desk. "Please, sit!"

Jaana raised a eyebrow at the moan and later remark, but decided it might be better to just shut up for once. After she sat down she started figiting with her jackets zipper.

Stace scrunched up her nose in an attempt to convey It's okay. Relax but then said, "I assume that you have come to report in, Ensign? How are you finding it with us here? Anything you need?"

She could see the woman still wrestling with the jacket. "Do you actually need a hand?"

She immediately placed her hand on her lap. "No, but thank you. I've indeed come to report in." She took a deep breath. Come on Jaana, you're a grown woman, start acting like one" I haven't really gotten a chance to look around since my arrival an hour ago, but what I saw looked great. Can't wait to get started."

Stace smiled her reply. "Good," she managed, nodding her head. "Remind me of your background, Ensign? First posting?" Stace enjoyed the greenness off youth and cast her mind back to her first steps into this career. All full of hope and wonder.

"No, third posting. Have been posted on Earth so far. At headquarters and the academy."

"I meant space duty, Ensign. Outside of the Academy?" Norvi smiled and then scrunched her nose. "It's a little different out here."

"Oh... Uhm... This is my first shipbased posting." Jaana studdered. Why did she felt so incompetent when someone asked her posting history. So what that she hadn't been posted on a ship before, and was only an ensign. She didn't join Starfleet to get the highest rank in the shortest time possible. She joined for the opportunities it offered.

Stace scrunched up her nose again. "Ah, the best kind of officer!" she reassured her, wincing a little more as she sat back. "You'll learn so much these first few weeks. Things that neither HQ nor the Academy can train you in." The hesitation in Jaana's voice was only natural, and in fact Stace thought it rather endearing. "If you need anything while you're posted with us, Ensign, then please come and see me. She's a small ship and we're quite the community up here. I'm looking forward to getting to know you."

"Well, my main reason for choosing the Galileo is so I could finish my research needed for my PhD. What do you know of Heliopauses?"

"Other than its existence, not much else," Stace replied honestly. "Are you researching into the Interstella Medium barrier itself of the stream of solar plasma?"

The Interstella Medium barrier itself. My research is focused on two sections. The differences between the 5 most well known Heliopauses and the way they have been researched over the past 500 years." she paused for a moment. "Did you know that it took earth more then 40 years before they had real scientific proof of the existence of the Heliopause. Voyager I arrived there after a trip of 38 years in 2015. Until that point all scientist could do was theorize about its existence."

Stace smiled. "Earth's scientific advances aren't really at the forefront of my educational background, but we did lightly touch upon this at the academy. What have you personally discovered so far with it, Ensign?"

"To be honest, I've just started collecting data. Beyond that not so much"

"Well," Stace interjected with a smack of the table that sent her lower back into spasm, "Uh! You've come to the right place to find out."

"I know I am. Can't wait to get started!" Jaana said.
