Abbey was laid down on the pitiful excuse for a bed, she sometimes missed her room back on Deep space Five and the space that her and her father had. She could practice her dancing or be in one end of the room without having to speak to her dad when they had an argument. She missed those days, sometimes.

During the time she had before coming aboard the Galileo Abbey had found an interest in reading books, her current interest was called The metal throne. "What is honour compared to a woman's love? " She read out loud as for the moment she was alone and she preferred to reading aloud. "What is duty against the feel of a newborn son in your arms . . . or the memory of a brother's smile? Wind and words. Wind and words. We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy."

Jacob had finally gotten his room assignment and been updated regarding the new roommate policy and procedure and so he headed with his personal things packed and toted or pulled behind him to the new room. He hoped that whomever he was to room with would like music, like to have fun and wouldn't mind have one of the Federation's biggest BIG geek as a roommate. He found the room and entered. He nearly dropped the resin entombed gridiron football under his right arm when he saw his new roommate.

She was lovely! Nearly as lovely as Mor'an! She had long brown hair, brown eyes and a sweet, pretty face. She was petite as could be. She looked like she could be graceful even as she was just sitting there reading a book.

Jacob looked back at his PADD to make sure this was indeed the correct room. He cleared his throat. "Um.. Hi.." he said with a slightly hoarse voice as he was caught completely by surprise at the roommate situation. ".. Jacob, Jacob Pendleton." He put his stuff down on his bed and then turned to offer his massive hand to her.

Abbey brought the book she was reading to her chest, and peaking over the top she could see a muscular man standing in the lobby area. His presence and size alone took up more space than two of her could ever occupy "Hi" Abbey said standing up slowly and placing the bookmarker on the page she had just finished before taking his oversized hand and shaking it as firmly as she could back" Abbey Wyatt" For a moment the shake lingered "so you're my new roommate?" It was obvious he was but she didn't know this person and she enjoyed interrogating new people.

Her tiny hand gave him a shake in where she tried to be as firm as possible; he smiled at that, after all, if he had done that, her hand would have every bone it broken. He smiled down at her, "I am indeed. Pleasure to meet you Abbey." His deep voice was gentle and somewhat soft, or at least as soft as he could make it. "I see you took that bed so by process of elimination, this one would be mine." He smiled at her and put his stuff on the bed then looked around at his part of the room trying to figure out where he wanted things and make sure he didn't interfere with her stuff.

As he tried to figure out his portion and how to personalize his area he asked of her, "So, what are you reading?"

"The iron throne" she said simply processing her thoughts and ideas she was gathering of the man. "So you work in secuirty?" She guessed his size certainly supported her claim and if she were anywhere else she'd say he was a marine.

He smiled, "Nope, I'm the Chief Research Officer." He gave the space next to his deck a good look and then went over to his bag and pulled out a one foot in circumference stone Aztec Calendar and hung it. "And you, where do you call your duty home?"

"Well I can now have a good guess as at why we have been bunked together. I've been told that I am shadowing the Chief Research Officer, my official rank and position is Crewman Apprentice, Scientist mate" She smiled "But I'm sure I'll be Captain with-in a year" She winked.

Jacob smiled wider, "Oh, I don't doubt that for a second. You seem like the type to get what she wants." He placed the resin encased football at the far left corner of his desk. He then unpacked his two guitars and his saxophones and put them on stands he had placed in the corner of the room.

"What's that?" She asked pointing to the stone object he had just hung.

"An Aztec Calendar," Jacob's voice was filled with pride, "I picked it up in Mexico City when I was fifteen. A reminder of part of my culture, a token of a people and their history, and a reminder of what it means to be proud to be Mexican, Hispanic, Latino and Chicano."

"Thats pretty cool" She stood admiring the piece before paying attention to the other objects he had displayed "Aaaand, you play the guitar?" She walked over and put her hand on the top and ran her hand down the neck.

"Acoustic six and twelve string guitar," He pointed to the 12 string guitar, "As well as saxophone," pointing to the sax in its cradle, "And piano as well. So yah, you could say I love music."

Abbey grinned "You wouldn't happen to dance to would you? There maybe some hope for you yet" She teased stepping away from the guitar scared to break it.

"I am a fair dancer. Pretty light on my feet for a man of my size." Jacob smiled as he saw her move away from his guitar, "You can pick it up if you want, it isn't THAT fragile."

Abbey eyed the guitar for a moment unsure if she could trust herself with something of his but smiled and picked it up slowly. Sitting down on her bed she shuffled it around until it was comfortable. She had some experience with a guitar but she was more of a pianist. "Like this?" She asked.

Jacob smiled at her, "Yep. You can either use chords or finger picking styles to play individual notes. A lot of guitar is style, how you play it, in other words do you want the sound of the instrument to be Jazz, Folk, Rock, Spanish, what have you, is all in how you play the strings whether that be soft or hard, fast or slow, intricate or simple."

Abbey plucked a couple of chords trying to remember what she was taught as child but it didn't sound like it used to, picking up the guitar she moved it towards Jacob "Show me? Maybe I'll sing or dance perhaps both if your lucky" She joked.

He took the guitar from her hand, "Ok Abbey, watch my finger work here. I will be doing a Jazz/Pop music number called 'Take Five', well at least a guitar version of the instrumental." He fingers quickly took their positions on the fret board and began to move with skill and grace. His long, powerful fingers made the guitar almost sing as he progressed through the song.

A grin grew on Abbey's face spreading across it like wildfire. She could feel herself sink into her stomach as he played. "You're so good" She said feeling flustered and could feel herself blush, the embarrassment of which made her only blush more.

Jacob smiled back, saw her blush but pretended not to notice, "Thanks. I am a fair player though to be honest, I would like to be proficient on the guitar as I am on the sax or the piano." He looked up again from his playing, "I've been practicing Spanish Style guitar until just recently as I realized I am letting my vocal practice lax. I sure hope at some point to be able to put a solo performance for the crew, a mini-concert if you will."

"That would be something I'd pay to see, I could help you with your piano skills, I'm not great but I used to play" Her mother had taught her as a child as well as ballet, her vocal lessons however were taught by a paid teacher. Standing up she paced the room "I think we need some ground rules after all your a guy and I'm a girl unless you have some secret you want to tell me?"

Jacob frowned at the sudden change of topics. "Ok, what rules did you want to create together? We are both adults here, we are both scientists and it seems you and I have some commonalities to build a friendship on, and I believe in having mutual respect towards all people... so what did you want to add? What are your worries with this arrangement of ours?"

"I know this is sudden and I dont mean it to be bad but... Well I was thinking about our privacy. I dont want to have to report you for stealing a glimpse if you know what I mean?" The comment was a joke but the topic had a serious meaning, Abbey was the first to admit to fooling around but if he was to be her boss and room mate she didn't want any awkwardness or tension growing between them not that she would deny he wasn't handsome.

Jacob chuckled, "What about if YOU stole a glimpse? Would I have to report you? Seriously, there are more important things to worry about wouldn't you agree? For instance, should we have a code word or simple computer message we could send to each other in case we had a hot date we wanted to be with in an intimate setting? I don't ever want to tread on your privacy Abbey, and I am sure you don't want to tread on mine, but respect is respect as far as I am concerned. If you wanted to steal a glimpse at me let's say, I wouldn't be offended or really even worried about it... think about it, just in our shifts alone, how many times do we steal a look at someone and imagine them in more... 'romantic' situations? This ship is full of the best people in Starfleet. That means they are fit and they are smart, one would have to have no emotions or feelings not to fantasize or think about them romantically at some point in the time served alongside them."

Jacob smiled at her, "Look, if you are really worried about this, we can have a deep discussion about it, but at the end of the day, I want us as friends, good roommates who look out for each other, have fun, have each other's back and let whatever happens with that relationship happen. I think sometimes we overthink these things, especially for those of us who are Human."

Abbey shook her head "I have nothing to worry about, you're the ranking officer if anyone should have anything to worry about its you" She winked before laughing "I find it odd that you would use the word 'relationship' instead of... oh I dont know a hundred other ways of naming it such as friendship?" She teased. Abbey couldn't help but tease him, he seamed innocent in a muscly science officer innocent way but whatever the case she liked him.

Jacob rolled his eyes, "Ranking officer... really Abbey? Starfleet has military rank and structure out of sensible consideration, but is not actually a military organization excepting for starships designated for such purposes... and the Galileo is definitely NOT designated nor designed for such purposes. Yes, I am the CRO and a Lieutenant and your ranking officer as it were, but truth be told, I personally dislike the whole rank structure and system. I am a Scientist first and foremost, an idealist, musician, amateur historian, amateur holosim creator, amateur writer and an excellent athlete second, third and so on until somewhere near the bottom am I a Lieutenant on a Starfleet Vessel... and contrary to popular thinking and opinion, officers DO have feelings and DO have relationships with those not of the same rank. And yes... I used the word 'relationship' because it IS the best word since all interactions of any merit between people would be considered such."

He smiled again, got up and put the guitar back on its stand and then proceeded to hang up his clothes, fill his desk with things collected, needed, or just because they were interesting. Finally he installed a small multi-level bookshelf on the wall and proceeded to put up his own collections of books. Some of the titles included: "The War of the Worlds", "20000 Leagues Under the Sea", "A Wrinkle in Time", "The Chronicles of Narnia", "The Lord of the Rings", "The Ultimate Collection of Sherlock Holmes Stories", "The Collected Works of William Shakespeare", and "The History of Wisconsin" just to name a few.

Abbey watched him for a moment and watched as he unpacked his things, he was cute when he was ranting. Rolling onto her back her picked up a pillow and threw it at Pendleton. "Sorry" She said giggling.

He turned around, grabbed the pillow and replied, "Hmm, looks like you lost this." He gently tossed it, aiming it at her torso to make sure it didn't hurt her.

"Nope I don't think I did" She said frowning, "You read a lot of books?" She decided to ask since frowning soft plush objects would regain his attention perhaps she shouldn't have concerned herself about the his rank.

"Indeed; there is nothing better than the imagination and good book. Holosims are great of course because we can live out our fantasies and our stories and our dreams, but still nothing beats the written word in that respect. And yes you can borrow any of them anytime you want. I have more in the closet," He pointed to a large box, "So I will change them out from time to time." He sat down on his bed. "So what do you like to do Abbey? Any hobbies? Oh, and if there is something you would like as a holosim, I can create it... although it will take time, as I am decent but not master sim creator."

"I love sports" She started shifting her legs up onto the bed and crossing them, with her hands she nestled them between the gap that they created. "But what I love the most is Dancing" She said proudly "My mother taught me when I was younger and I became quiet good at ballet, you should try it! Its not what everyone think its like its actually quit therapeutic"

Jacob's thoughts were filled with how Abbey would look in tights and it was very sexy to be sure but he quickly got his mind back to the moment, "Well ballet may not quite be for me, but I have been on the night club floor before a few times. I miss clubbing sometimes since we don't get to do it here on the ship much... a shame really... maybe we need to start a dance club holoprogram..." His mind was now filled with how to make said program.

Abbey to was thinking wildly into the thought of a nightclub program, a chance to unwind like that aboard a starship what be her kind of thing "You should do it! I won't deny that the next best thing to ballet is going out to a night club and dancing the night away with a few drinks" The very idea excited her though the thought of getting Pendleton to dress in tights and a leotard... Maybe she could have both.

Jacob's PADD alarm went off and he walked over and picked it up, "Ah me, almost forgot that I had a wrestling match today... just too busy as of late..." He looked over to Abbey, "Ok so I have my match today so I can enter the wrestling tournament for a shot at the Galactic Wrestling Heavyweight Title. If there are any room rules you want to put to writing we could create a list and post it on one of the walls. Would that put your mind at ease?"

Abbey shook her head "I don't think we're going to need any rules you seem like a trustful enough guy and well who wouldn't want to look at me right?" Sometimes it was easy to forget that she was speaking to her boss, technically. "See you later?" She asked hoping she didn't sound to needy.

Jacob chuckled, "Ok." He walked over grabbed the pillow she had thrown and gently squashed it on her head and then playfully messed up her hair with it enjoying her squeals and her attempting to keep him from messing up her hair, "See you later roomie." He then walked out the door quickly before she could retaliate.

Abbey watched him leave up until the doors closed behind him. Shaking her head she smiled whilst placing the pillow back on her bed and flattening her hair. "Why do they always go for the hair" She said aloud throwing herself back onto the bed and starring up at the ceiling. She could tell that they were going to have a roller-coaster of a relationship.
