Petty Officer 1st Class Victarion Jaqen rang the chime before entering the Captain's office, giving a small smile to the man. It would be strange, working for Holliday rather than Saalm. But things changed. And Victarion accepted it easily. "Sir, I brought you your schedules for the next days. I was hoping we could go over it, as well as any duties you wish to assign me." And to get to know what the man expected from him.

Without looking up John took the PADD offered to him and quickly looked it over, nothing seemed particularly out of place and he was more than happy to sign off on the document there and then, entering his authorisation code accordingly. He was still not used to having a yeoman, during his time as XO he had been given no special treatment, no assistance, and he had managed just fine. It seemed however that there was a popular move in the fleet for captains and flag officers to have their own assistant aboard ship.

"Thank you Petty Officer. Feel free to help yourself to the replicator. Mine is a raktajino, double sweet."

Victarion nodded, walking to the replicator. He got the raktajino, double sweet, for Holiday. For himself, he got peach iced tea. He carried both easily back and got a coaster out, to put the glass on. He smiled gently, remaining silent as took the PADD out, to write down notes.

"You'll...have to forgive me. I haven't exactly had a Yeoman before. If I am honest I have no real idea of how to use you. I was so used to dealing with everything myself as First Officer I'm not au fait with the more Command orientated methods."

John gratefully picked up his Klingon coffee and took a deep swig from the cup. The caffeine would help his straggled mind to pull itself back together in the run up Galileo's return to space, and help to focus his thoughts.

"You probably know more about the role than I do at this time."

"Hardly, Sir," Victarion sipped his drink, watching him. "I try to make things easier for you. I set up appointments for you. And I make sure you have time for sleep. I will...also be the one who will be on call. When you are awake, I am awake. You can hand me some of your lesser work. I make sure all reports are up to date and I chase those that are late with them. I make sure your replicator works and that any maintenance of your quarters or office is done when you are not there. In the purest sense, I am your assistant."

"My assistant. Hmm." John mulled over the thought in his head for a couple of seconds as he summed up his feelings about having a lackey to follow up on his less important tasks. The Captain knew that a lot of his time was going to be taken up by duties that probably would be best handled by someone else, and in the long term he could see the benefit of having someone to defer the more arduous tasks to.

"Well...It's good to know I have your support. I presume you have been furnished with a workspace somewhere on the ship? A place to hunker down with a pile of PADDs?"

"I have my own desk," he said with a firm nod. "And all I need to do my work well, Captain. Please remember you can get a hold of me day and night. When you are on the bridge, I will be on duty. Regardless of what shift."

"That's good to know. For now I suppose I should make good of your services. I need a complete inventory review on my desk for tomorrow morning - I want to make sure that the Quartermaster has delivered everything he promised, otherwise I may have to enjoy a swift chat with him."

John replied, thankful for the extra assistance he would be receiving on Galileo's maiden voyage.

Victarion stood, taking it as his cue to leave. "Of course, Captain," he said and smiled warmly to him. "You will have it ready for when you go to your desk tomorrow morning. And if he has not delivered everything...well...I shall send him your way."

"Well...I...thank you Petty Officer. Dismissed?"

John wasn't entirely sure where else to go with the conversation, after all, the Petty Officer had just solved two of his problems with one single offer of assistance. That was enough to make the Captain feel a little more relaxed than he had been only minutes previously.

"I'll see you later, Captain," Victarion said, smiling warmly as he cleared away his own glass before moving out of the office. He had a lot to do and he was sure the Captain had too. And after all; he could make a head start on inventory review.
