Mission: Episode 05 - Solstice
Location: USS Galileo - Security Chief's Office
Timeline: MD -7, 1400

ON:

When the doors into the security office opened, Bree looked up from her station and smiled at the tall hunk of a man with green eyes. Bree had of course seen Chief Wyatt many times in the last month on the journey home, but never had spent time socializing. She thought he was a nice enough guy, for a Marine. Christoph smiled and asked, "May I help you Chief?"

Luke looked around; he was in a pleasantly high mood. His uniform was crisp and most likely different to what he was used to. Yellow instead of Green and he was wearing the rank of chief petty officer. "Is Rhodes about?"

"Let me see if he is busy." She replied and sent a quick digital message from her console to the Chief of Security. After just a couple seconds, Bree smiled again and looked up at Chief Wyatt, "You can go in now Chief."

The door to the Chief's office opened beckoning the visitor.

Luke walked in with a spring in his step "Afternoon Sir" he braced up as he fell into the centre of the room. The last few days had been a big change for him. Changing from Marine to Security was no small step, but he was willing to try this new life not just for him and his daughter, but this crew...his crew.

Rhodes stood up out of respect, and with a pleasant smile replied, "Afternoon Chief." He extended his left hand toward the chair across from his desk, "Will you have a seat? Tell me what is on your mind."

"As long as I can keep it." He joked pulling the chair out and sitting down on it, shuffling slightly to make himself comfortable. "I was hoping to speak to you about my role in your department, and I say your because despite my experience you're the ranking officer and I want to help you in any way I possibly can." He proceeded honestly without hesitating. Luke was a man that got straight to the point.

Rhodes did not quite understand what was undoubtedly humorous about the chair, but he let that go. When Wyatt finished, Theron sat with a serious almost grim face while thinking. He then said, "I can appreciate your situation. You had mentioned previously about helping with security." Looking a little more interested and directly at the Chief he asked, "What skills do you think you would be bringing to this department?

Luke put his right hand under his chin and stroked it thoughtfully "Well I'm great with small arms and I have a lot of combat experience" He continued to think "Well I have a little knowledge of most things but I guess my main attributes is my combat skill and knowledge." Settling on that, he sat back into his chair putting his hand down.

Theron was glad to see Luke relax a little after his explanation. The security chief tried to be encouraging, "I think your combat skills would definitely come in hand with training of our security force on the Galileo." He thought for a moment then added, "I am sure that you tactical skills could also be shared."

Luke nodded in agreement "That's my thoughts exactly! And there's things you and your team can teach me. I'm sure that recent events have shaken everyone up, so its best to look at all the options. Just because were a small science vessel, people assume we wont get into the thick of things the Borg proved that wrong."

"Quite true." Rhodes commented in kind. He again quickly flipped through the personnel file, then said, "There is no doubt that we can use some of your specific skills through ongoing training, but what do you see yourself doing on a daily basis, here on the ship?"

"I think I'd make a good quarter master I'm useful with the weapons and it'll be a step down from doing what I used to, but I'd welcome the change and quite frankly, I think my daughter would too." He replied promptly as if knowing what he was going to say before he even heard the question?

The Chief paused a moment seeing that his response too polished, as if rehearsed. He shook off that idea, because there was no doubt that Wyatt had been thinking about it for some time. "Very well Mr. Wyatt. I too can see you managing the armory . . and training . . " he trailed off as if thinking through another matter. Lt. Rhodes then looked directly at Chief Wyatt, "I have an additional task for your job title. Would you consider being . . well, the body guard for the senior officer on away missions?"

A confused look developed on his face as he sat back in his seat, "a body guard?" He finally asked.

Rhodes crossed his arms, "What I am proposing is that you would take lead security on all away missions to protect them, especially the senior officer."

Luke went over the possibility, it would give him the responsibility he could easily handle, but at the same time it could potentially put him in harm's way, not that he wouldn't be anywhere else on the ship. "Sounds like a great idea to me since they won't adhere to protocols we can at least minimise those threats."

Rhodes smiled and nodded. "It looks then we have come to an accord. I will speak to the XO on your behave to get his authorization." Theron paused a moment thinking about rank and protocol, but asked first, "Are there any other requests before I write this up?"

Luke shook his head in response to the security chiefs question "Nope, not at all and thank you for hearing me out chief. I look forward to testing out my new job titles" He added enthusiastically.

"Well, we will be back to Earth and in dry dock in a about week." Rhodes explained, "You may not get to try out that new title until we return from shore leave. But in the mean time, please consider yourself a senior officer in the Security Department and report directly to me."

Luke nodded in acknowledgment "Thanks, I think I can wait a few weeks to try out my new career," he said through parted lips "If there isn't anything else may I be excused?" He asked politely.

"Yes." Rhodes simply replied, then stood and extended a hand, "And welcome."

Standing up and relaxing more than he had for a while, he took Rhodes hand and shook it firmly before releasing it. "Thank you sir." He added politely before tugging on his shirt and heading towards the door.
