Amynta placed the food on the table, looking over at her guests. She had finally talked Alexion into coming for a break...and she wanted to make sure that he didn't go back to work. She knew his type, he'd be back in sickbay if she let him. And the hell would she let him.

"This is good," Laeon said softly with surprise, tucking in for another bite. "Is this a dish from your homeworld?"

She chuckled as she nodded. "Eggs, potatoes and onions with paprika. It's pretty much what I grew up on," she said as she sat down, reaching to pour the mint tea for them.

Alexion watched her with a small smile, moaning for a moment from how good the food tasted. He hadn't realised how hungry he was. "Food of the heart."

Amynta looked over at him before taking a breath. "Comforts," she finally said. "It is the only thing we have left when all is said and done."

Alexion watched her carefully, studying her features for a long moment. "You must have had a mountain of intel to go through after the Borg Cube missions."

"Me and Hex sorted through what we have," she said with a shake of her head. "I have reports to write, but I am waiting until tomorrow."

" 'Tomorrow is the battlefield of the bold'," Laeon said with a small smile of amusement, reaching for the tea.

Amynta looked at the boy with surprise before laughing. "I like that," she said, shaking her head. "I might steal that."

Laeon laughed warmly with her, shaking his head, making his long, blonde hair quiver. "I would rather do everything 'tomorrow'," he admitted.

"And I know it," Alexion chuckled softly, shaking his head as he sipped the tea. He nodded with approval, clearly enjoying it; it reminded him of a similar herbal hot drink where he was from.

Amynta watched them, smiling gently. Their relationship fascinated her. How...warm they were with each other as father and son. Balanced. "I think that right now, difficult things should be dealt with tomorrow. We've been busy."

Laeon nodded firmly, agreeing completely with her. "See? You hear that? Maybe you will listen to an officer!"

Alexion laughed softly, his eyes fixed on Amynta for a long moment, a slight glint coming to his blue eyes. "I would not count on it."

She arched an eyebrow, chuckling. "A typical doctor...giving orders and advice but not following them," she teased, reaching for her drink.

"They are the same where you are from too then?" Laeon laughed softly, shaking his head. He had always thought the same of his father. Telling everyone not to do things and then doing them himself.

"It's a universal thing," she said teasingly, before meeting Laeon's eyes. "But as your father, he will always tell you what he thinks is best for you. So listen."

"Privilege of a parent?" Laeon sighed, shaking his head before tilting it, clearly having it heard it before.

"Yes, and we are always right too," Alexion added with a gruff voice, but looked to Amynta with a quick wink.

Amynta nodded, trying to keep a straight face. "Always. And forever. When you are old and your father older, he will still be right..."

"That is not fair. It means I will never win," Laeon shook his head with a sigh, but there was also a smile on his features.

"You will win against others," she said and sat back, looking at Alexion for a moment, studying his profile.

Alexion nodded firmly at that. He had raised Laeon to win. To live. It was a lot, when so many had not. "Is that what you do, Amynta?"

"I try to always win," she admitted as she reached for some food. "Only way to survive in this world. Professionally, I mean."

"Not personally?" he asked with mild surprise as he watched her, letting it show in his eyes.

She watched him before shrugging. "Well...depending entirely on the situation," she said lightly.

Alexion smiled at that. Yeah, he would have laid bets on it. "Oh, you win, Amynta," he said with a small smile.

She smiled as she popped some potato in her mouth, winking before reaching for more tea. "So...something sweet?"

"Yes please," Laeon nodded with a smile, watching Amynta with similar curiosity. She seemed different from a lot of humans he'd met.

Alexion nodded too, although he could do with a smoke and drink as well. He rubbed his face to try and look more alert.

Amynta got up and moved to get the chocolate. Her personal stash...different flavours, from chilli to mint. She carried them over and placed them down before moving to get out the small bottle of scotch she had. She didn't drink it often, so it was full. She was more about the wine but had finished that bottle. She got three glasses, moving to sit down. "Here."

Alexion looked with surprise. He might not be human, but he could recognise whiskey when he saw it. He gave a half smile, meeting her eyes boldly. "I will return the favour," he assured.

She nodded as she held his eyes, opening it. "The chocolates are different flavours. Have to taste them to see if you like them. Laeon, want some scotch too?" she asked the boy...letting it be his decision.

Laeon nodded with a small smile, letting out a long breath as he sat forward. "Could I have some water with it?" he asked, already getting up to go to the replicator for some. It was stronger than what he was used to.

She nodded as she smiled gently. "Of course," she said before pouring the drinks for her and Alexion. "It's always good to have something to enjoy...even if it is bad for you."

"Are you sure you weren't meant to be a doctor?" Alexion teased with a small smile as Laeon watered out his whiskey.

She smiled as she sat back, crossing her legs. "Hell no...I'd make a dreadful doctor..." she said and sipped her drink, watching Alexion closely.

"I thought the same too," Alexion admitted quietly, sipping his drink before sighing with appreciation at the strength of it, needing the alcohol. "Still do some days."

She watched him before shaking her head. "You did good," she said softly. "On my away team. You did really good."

"What? My demand to bring extra people home did not agitate you?" he asked, half suspicious as he arched an eyebrow. Amynta ran a tight ship, so to speak.

She shrugged, watching him for a moment. "They were tiny," she said softly, her eyes on his. "By the time we were there, I didn't see the issue of taking a few more."

Alexion smiled with amusement as he watched her, tilting his head. "Or perhaps you just like children. It is allowed. You have one, after all."

Amynta smiled weakly, taking some chocolate. "Children are...alright," she said and took a bite. She didn't mind them as much as adults some times. At least children had reasons.

"I would not know," Laeon said with a small, playful smile, knowing Amynta knew by now, from the visits she'd paid on them, his frustration at still being seen as a kid.

She smiled, shaking her head as she looked at him. "Oh, trust me...one day you will look back and see how nice it was. Not now. But when you are older."

Laeon shrugged at that, looking down with a slight frown.

Alexion glanced to him, touching his arm, but to pick up on what he was thinking through the contact. He was silent when he realised what it was. How people Laeon knew now would be dead when he was older. It wasn't the first time Alexion had felt both pain and anger at his son having to grow up away from their homeworld and absent from his own people. "You have to make the best of what you have. Or there's no point."

Amynta looked at them, frowning slightly. She sipped her drink, taking a breath as she watched them. "And not to mention, enjoy each moment."

Alexion smiled, grateful to Amynta for the right words at the right time, nodding firmly. "It is all that matters."
