"One million, nine hundred and forty two potato, one million, nine hundred and forty three potato..."

Asahi was beginning to get tired of counting, and was especially tired of counting in potatoes. He wasn't even sure what he was counting anymore. At first it was time, as the heads-up display had shorted out the moment his escape pod launched, but soon it turned into debris, and then into the stars around him. It might have been a limited window, but he could see some of environment around him.

Boy was space intimidating and lonely when he was on his own.

Space soon turned into metallic surfaces, which soon turned into the familiar view of a docking bay. "Well that was a lot faster than I thought it would be."

As soon as the pod's door opened up (it was best to let the others open it because who knew what was going to happen when he opened it), he put on his trademark grin.

"Oh thank the stars!" His grin widened as he hopped out of the escape pod. "Was it crowded in there!" After a small, hesitant beat, he gave the blue-uniformed woman a firm pat on the shoulder. "Thank you oh so very-"

A medical device was stuck in his face, and the woman, who he now presumed to be a doctor, rattled off a list of rapid-fire questions in his direction. Answering them was more difficult than he originally thought it would be; maybe he was in the escape pod longer than he thought.

"Name and rank, please."

A question he could finally answer, and he was more than happy to pipe up with the correct one. "Ah, Lieutenant Junior Grade Asahi Kita, ma'am! I was supposed to be-"

"You check out alright, Lieutenant, so long as there's no dizziness or light-headedness? Or if something has been prodded into you-"

"N-no!" His eyes widened. He may have lost track of time while keeping the escape pod in working condition, but he was fairly certain he would have noticed foreign objects in there with him.

Blast, he should have paid attention to what hit them, but no, he had to keep an eye on the red alert and help the crew out instead. He was an able-bodied engineer, it only seemed logical to at least attempt to help.

"Where am I? Who are you?" It must have been hectic if he didn't get identification from his examiner.

The woman kept her eyes on the PADD in front of her, not once blinking as she spoke. "You're on the USS Galileo, sir."

Asahi's brow rose at the realization. "... Oh." He had reached his assignment much sooner than he expected. Granted, being pulled out of space from an escape pod wasn't exactly the most fitting of methods, but hey, he wasn't about to complain. His eyes wandered from the blue-clad officer and to the rest of the cargo bay, surveying what appeared to be a makeshift triage. That must have meant the Venture was in much more trouble than he thought.

Then realization washed over him. "What happened to the rest of the crew? Did everyone make it out?" It was chaos the moment they were attacked, so casualties were, sadly, almost a given. He hoped for the best, but only that went so far.

The medical officer only shook her head, ignoring his question and gesturing in another direction. "You seem to check out alright."

"S-so..." He paused, not entirely sure what to do. "Am I free to report to Engineering?" He was supposed to be on the Galileo to begin with. Might as well help where he could.

"... Knock yourself out. Just be sure to make sure the nurse knows where you're from and where you're going."

Asahi grinned, tipping an imaginary hat at the medical officer. "Thank you much, ma'am." And was immediately off to find some sense in all this chaos.

Eventually he'd find something.
