[ON]

S'Ranna padded the quiet corridors. It was gamma shift and Galileo was on night lighting, but her sharp felinoid eyes had little trouble adjusting; her hearing and olfactory senses compensated in any case, and she could tell few people were about. That suited her just fine: it meant she might be seen quickly in Sickbay. After delaying her boarding physical, more out of sheer forgetfulness than any deliberate attempt at avoidance, she did not want to waste too much time over it. Entering Sickbay, she looked around for a doctor to speak with, her tail twitching.

Allyndra was just finishing her latest experiment on her scissors and headed back into the main bay. She looked up just as a Caitian ensign walked in. Allyndra nodded to the night nurse that she had this. She could tell from the tell-tale swish-twitch of the tail the Caitian was nervous.

"I can I help you Ensign?" Allyndra asked. "I do not bite..." she smiled and with a musical laugh added, "much."

S'Ranna examined the approaching doctor with interest. She had never met a woman of her species before: beyond the metallic hair and distinctive skin colour, the most striking aspect of her was her eyes, lacking white and giving off an unnerving reflection of the night lights. S'Ranna's fur prickled a little instinctively, her tail puffing out.

"That is...rrreasurrring," she replied. "I have the honour of being Ensign S'Ranna T'Srrr'Krarh, Flight Contrrrol, and I am coming here so I can be having my boarrding physical. Is that something you could take carrre of, Doctorrr...?"

"I certainly can." Allyndra replied. She waved a hand toward one of currently empty biobeds. "Please relax, and let's get this over with."

S'Ranna nodded calmly and padded across to the biobed, sitting down and fussing briefly over the positioning of her tail. In the end she let it drape over the edge, its dark tip twitching fretfully.

Allyndra went to get a PADD to bring up records or make notes or both. "I so detest these things don't you? In is only rarely that Fleet would bother to send someone out to duty that was not really fit for it. However, regulations are regulations. Now then, please lay back and let me start a baseline scan."

"I do quite agrrree, Doctorrr. I had to go thrrrough extensive physical testing on my last assignment: I do not see what could possibly have changed that I would now be unfit for rrregularrr starrrship duty. But - rrregulations arrre rrregulations, as you say." Folding her paws over her stomach, S'Ranna lay back, breathing shallow.

Allyndra started the scan and turned back to her patient. "Now then, what I usually reserve this time for is to ask if there is anything in particular that I should know, anything has changed, complaints that sort of thing. I do so detest having to dig into a file if there is something important I should know right up front."

S'Ranna's tail swung like a pendulum as she considered her answer. "Not that I can think of, Doctorrr. I take quakatoxil-subate to rrrregulate my blood prrresurrre, but my dosage has not needed adjusting in severrral yearrrs. And my last shedding was rrrecent, just beforrre I left the Test Flight Rrrrange, so I do not believe I will be needing a derrrmaline prrrescrrription anytime soon."

"Very good," Allyndra made a note on the PADD. She looked up at the scan and her expression tugged into a small frown. "I see some calcification and fusion of the lower spine. You injured yourself?"

"Ah, yessss..." S'Ranna's eyes glazed at the memory. Her tail fell still, dangling listlessly. "Prrrototype rrrrunabout. Blown rrrrelay in the engine assembly. Big crrrrash." She gestured with her paws. "I have a fusion of the L7-L8 verrrtebrrrae. Therrre has not been a loss of motorrr function. I just need to be carrreful not to crrrash another rrrunabout, or I might aggrrrrevate it," she teased, making a joke, without much light in her voice, of the accident that had almost ended her career.

Allyndra nodded solemnly. She was no mind reader but she could tell it was something that bothered the Catian. She put on a smile, "Ah the ground is a harsh mistress is it not?"

As she said that she opened just enough the long translucent wings on her back. "I have learned that lesson myself more than a few times." She closed the wings to lie flat again.

S'Ranna watched the unfolding of the wings, impressed, golden eyes steadily widening. As a child she had dreamed of flying, but jumping out of trees took its toll - to actually have wings and soar! She closed her eyes and dreamt for a moment.

"Well then, let me get a swab for the DNA bank and I think we are done unless you have anything more for me or concerns."

The cold reality of DNA testing brought her back down to that 'harsh mistress' of ground. Her eyes fluttered open and she sat up, tail rising behind her as a counterweight. "Of courrrrse, Doctorrr." She did not like being swabbed - her sensitive whiskers tended to tickle - but she knew it was a necessary procedure.

Allyndra could read the body posture. "I do not find it appealing myself even though it is minor. This time, for my own check in physical I was lucky enough to have a very uncurious Vulcan. Otherwise I tend to spend hours while being asked all sorts of questions."

Allyndra got the materials and then said, "Forgive me but open."

S'Ranna grimaced, but opened her mouth all the same, baring a tongue covered in spines and a mouth full of sharp, glinting fangs; her dental hygiene was impeccable, and each tooth was sharp, straight, and bone white.

She tried to make it as quick as possible and then put the sample away to be filed. She then picked the PADD up and with a flourish, "You are good to go."

Relieved, S'Ranna hopped down off the biobed, tail balancing her as she landed on her footpaws. "Thank you kindly, Doctorrr. That was not unpleasant. I look forrrwarrrd to seeing you arrround the ship and worrrking togetherrr."

She gave Allyndra's wings one last admiring glance before leaving.

Allyndra nodded and waved to the Catian. She always admired their gracefulness. Time was almost over for another day and she filed the sample and began preparations to turn over the shift.
