Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4, Flight Control
Timeline: MD01 - 1730 Hours

[ON]

S'Ranna returned from the holodeck exhilarated. Holographic flying was not quite the same as real flying: though the experience itself was physically identical, the sharpness of the situation was never quite the same. Yet it had still been a thrill to get behind the controls of a Nova class and send it dancing through the tendrils of an alien nebula. Of course, she'd made a few alterations to Basic Astrometric Charting 101, just the odd extra astrometric feature, the odd extra Borg armada.

Content with her work, she now felt more confident about taking up her Bridge shift when the time came: and to do that, she would need to speak to her Department Head. Lieutenant Rrrral had seemed friendly enough; she hoped Lieutenant Mialin would be similarly disposed. She had not had a chance to meet with her prior to leaving for the mission, but now she was back on board, it was time. She approached the CFCO office and activated the door chime.

"Enter," Dea called out as she head the door chime. With the recent mission she'd been spending very little time in her office due to a busy schedule. Even though Dea was exhausted she did her best to put that aside.

S'Ranna stepped through with a smart whip of her tail, greeting her new Department Head with a gracious nod of her furry head. "Grrreetings, Lieutenant Mialin. I have the honour of being Ensign S'Ranna T'Srrr'Krarh. I am joining you as a Flight Contrrrol Officer, forrmerrly of the Test Flight Rrrrange in Austrrralia. It is being a pleasure to meet you."

Gesturing to one of the empty chairs, "Have a seat Ensign. Welcome aboard the Galileo. It's a pleasure to meet you as well."

S'Ranna eased herself down to sit, her tail curling around the back, her paws folded neatly in her lap. "Thank you, Lieutenant. I am looking forrrward to being a part of this crrrew."

"Why did you decide to become a pilot?" Dea liked to get a sense of what prompted her personnel to choose Flight Control as their specialty.

S'Ranna raised her paws and flapped them like wings. Her tail swished about behind her in rhythm. "As a child, I always imagined flying," she said, before giggling. "But, I kept falling out of the trrrrees. So my parrrents suggested a starrrship might be a saferrr option, and everrr since, I have chased that drrream!"

Dea nodded with a tired smile, "Yes falling out of trees can be hazardous. Listen I won't keep you long. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. Get settled in."

S'Ranna was slightly surprised that her reporting in interview had lasted all of one question, though she supposed that perhaps Mialin had had the chance to review her file in the days she'd already been part of the crew. "Uh-hum, yes," she said cautiously. "I am wonderrring whetherrr I will mainly be worrrking in the shuttlebays, orrr as rrrelief on the Brrridge?"

"Let me first say that normally these interviews would last longer however these are not standard conditions as you've seen. While you're new to Galileo I can say this Flight Control department has been very busy since before your arrival. Recent events with the USS Venture don't help. So you'll be doing a combination of things whether its in the shuttlebays or relief on the bridge. Also I expect all pilots to keep up their skills with simulators and actual flight time." She paused, "We have a routine department meeting and you'll be notified of others that require you attendance."

"I had noticed..." said S'Ranna quietly. She had not been on the ship much more than 12 hours before she was being pressed into service on the Marina. Back aboard now, she had found the ship a confused mess as half-formed news of the Venture filtered in and survivors flooded every free unit of space.

Dea needed to address something else before letting S'Ranna get back to duty. "There are times things get rough. I want you to know my door is always open. If there's ever anything you need to discuss I'm here. As a Department Head my goal is to see to morale among other things," she paused then asked the question that has been on her mind, "Is there anything about this morning that you need to talk about or have questions about?"

S'Ranna considered this. She could ask about what had happened - she knew that Dea had been on the Bridge, and had perhaps been privy to more information - but that was not necessarily something she was entitled to know. For all that she had been posted to a science ship, S'Ranna did not have a particularly enquiring mind: she preferred to do first, and ask questions only later.

Thus, she said: "I do not believe so, not at this time. Though perrrhaps - if therrre arrre any trrraining simulations you could rrrecommend to me, that might be helpful. I am still getting used to the Nova class. Lieutenant Rrrrrrral was quite helpful when I spoke with herrr, but I am surrre yourrr opinion would carrrry even morrre weight."

"Yes I'd be more than happy to send you a list of simulations that are helpful," Dea responded. "If you get into any of them and have more questions after flying them let me know. A lot of it is just spending time on a Nova class ship.

"Thank you, that would be most helpful." S'Ranna smiled: thus far, Dea had been much more friendly and welcoming than some of the brusque senior officers she'd served under in the past. It was reassuring, and she patted her tail comfortingly.

"As far as the Venture goes I really don't know anymore than you do at this time. We went in search of her because she'd failed to report back. The rescue Ops started immediately upon finding her remains." After letting that sink in, "While we are a Science ship I can say that Galileo has seen more than her share of combat and other situations outside the norm for a ship of our class. So I always try to have this department prepared for anything the best we can be."

"Of courrrse, I quite agrrree," S'Ranna said determinedly. Duly impressed, she uncrossed her paws and made to stand. "In that case, I think the best thing is forrr me to wrrrite up my flight log frrrom the Marrrina and then starrrt prrractising forrr my Brrridge shifts again. If therrre's nothing else, may I be excused?"

Dea stood from behind her desk, "That's all I have. I'm interested to see your report from theMarina. Dismissed."
