It was always the same. One checked in with the XO, sometimes the Captain if there was time or interest, medical evaluation and psyc evaluation. Allyndra was so used to it that it seemed almost pointless, especially the later. She had been both chief medical and chief counselor over her career and she knew that few would even be assigned to a ship if they were that much of a nut job or that ill physically.

The PADD with her transfer orders tucked gently under one arm she headed toward the XO's office and arrived promptly a few minutes before. She smiled slightly as she checked in with the enlisted officer. The Guild Mother had drilled being prompt into her with many a painful lesson.

Allyndra declined to take a seat. They were all high backed affairs and did not work well with wings that stretched from shoulder to almost ankle. There were few that noticed until she turned since they were nearly transparent but then she could feel the eyes on her back.

While she waited to be officially called she checked her reflection in a shiny surface making sure no errant hair had pulled from the band that confined it and she looked her best. It was another lesson drilled into her from childhood, that first impressions were always important.

Satisfied that everything was set, Allyndra waited the formal call from the Executive Officer.

From behind his desk, John patiently worked through the latest ship transfer orders - new crew members were happily making their way onto the Galileo, whilst others were departing for pastures new. Each one of them required the same procedure of acknowledging and authorising the transfer order, then actioning it within the Starfleet mainframe, something that the XO must have done a dozen times today already.

Moving down the list he came across the next name, a Lieutenant who he would most likely have difficulty in even pronouncing, let alone guessing her species. Tapping his combadge he called for his latest appointment.

"Lieutenant Warraquim...my door is open - please come in."

Allyndra waited patiently and then the comm chirped. She wasted no time and promptly entered coming to attention and handing her PADD over the man behind the desk. "Lieutenant Allyndra, reporting sir. I am your new ACMO, sir." She kept the normal pronunciation of her name out of her voice, though a little of the sing song crept in.

"Welcome aboard Lieutenant. Our medical department has been a little thin on the ground lately - I'm sure Captain Saalm will be as pleased as I am to know our request for extra staff is being answered. Lieutenant Kohl will certainly be glad to have an extra pair of hands onboard."

John perused the transfer orders in front of him. Nothing appeared to be out of place, and it took only a moment for the XO to be satisfied and place his thumbprint against the PADD to approve the orders.

"Thank you sir. If I may, while I am here please request that I have gamma shift? One reason for my transfer was a little extra time to pursue some research."

John was unaccustomed to officers trying to give him orders moments after stepping into his office, but in this case the XO could find no reason to argue with her request - Gamma shift had been understaffed since their encounter with the Klingons during their last mission and the extra hands would more than likely pay off in the future.

"I'm sure I can arrange something Lieutenant. It will give our EMH some downtime at least - I never was happy with running it's program too often."

Picking up one of the myriad of PADDs on his desk, John searched through the database for his shift program and quickled tapped through to add the Lieutenant's name to the Gamma shift.

"I run a tight ship on behalf of the Captain - lateness for duty shifts, detrimental performance of your duties, lack of attention to detail, any of those things land you straight back in this office. However, if you work hard, well, I don't see any reason why we won't get along just fine. Any questions?"

"No sir." Allyndra smiled, she had been in his shoes before and though she had been commended, it only made her realize that command was not something she wanted. "Trust me, I know what it is like. If there is anything more sir?"

"Right now? Nothing - you'll want time to get yourself adjusted to duty aboard Galileo - consider yourself off the duty rota until Gamma shift tomorrow. Dismissed Lieutenant"

"Yes sir." Allyndra nodded. She backed out for a few steps. It was a cultural thing that also had been drilled into her before turning. She could not help but wonder if it was his personality or just the fact that so much was going on. She would find out soon enough.
