Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4 - Main Medical
Timeline: MD 02 1300

ON:

Theron had already completed his regular workout for the day and showered. As he walked down Deck 4 heading toward the Officer's mess, he felt a twinge of sorrow. He was not sure from where it came or why, but his thoughts went to Lt. Orexil.

Once on the Vega Colony, medical personnel had wisked her away for treatment. It was not until a standard review of personnel files that the security officer found out that Lt. Orexil had been placed back on board the Galileo. The prognosis had not been great, but for some reason, from what he understood, they thought it best that she be here.

Theron shook his head to clear his thoughts and continue walking down the passage way. He then realized that he had missed the corridor he needed to go down, but at that moment found himself outside Sickbay. The security officer stepped inside. Being in full uniform, his presence was accepted without question. But the real question, was why he was here.

Alerted to the sound of the sickbay doors opening, Pola turned and a smile formed across her lips as she recognised the body whom entered. "Lieutenant Rhodes, is there something I can help you with?"

"Ahh." he looked both ways before responding. "I am not quite sure, to be honest." Looking up at the doctor, "May I see Lt. Orexil?"

Hesitating slightly, Pola looked across at the biobed which contained the patient in question. Her body covered in just sickbay's equivalent of pj's and a blanket, Kestra could have been mistaken for being asleep, where she was actually deep in a coma. "The company might do her some good..."

Theron approached the bio-bed where the motionless form of Kestra lay.

Hearing a monitor beeping pace start to increase, Pola quickly moved over to mute it, her eyes scanning the brain wave activity which was being shown in the image. "One of the reasons the colony looked to release her back to us was because she seems to react when in the presence of someone she knows. You can step closer if you like..."

The security officer hesitated then stepped next to Kestra's left side. Looking down at the lifeless form he said, "Thank you doctor."

Hesitating slightly herself, Pola watched Theron. "Would you like me to leave you be or would you prefer that I stayed?"

Without looking up, Theron replied slowly, "I think I will be fine by myself." He looked across at the doctor with gentle eyes and said, "Thank you." and gave a simple smile.

Hesitating a moment more, Pola smiled slightly and nodded her head. She honestly felt that the interaction between Kestra and the man who was practically her right hand man would be good for the woman. Moving away from them both, she moved across to her office where she could monitor Kestra's vitals.

After the doctor stepped away Theron turned back and looked down at his former Chief of Security. He felt mixed feelings; concern, sorrow, anger, joy. They all seemed to fly in and out of his thoughts. He closed his eyes and breathed in focusing his thoughts. Control was always important, even here.

Opening his eyes, Theron moved a little closer and leaned against the bio-bed. "Well Lieutenant," he began as if she was awake and listening to each word. "I am sorry you missed out on the enjoyable time at the Vega Colony. I understand the outing to the beach was quite . . . exilerating." He giggled just a little. He had read the some reports and heard a few stories from the crew that were there.

Theron crossed his arms and leaned on the bied, "The Galileo is on a new mission. A mission of discovery in fact." He smiled slightly, "We really have no idea what we will find. There are planets and moons in the habitable zone. We will of course do our best to keep the Galileo and her crew safe."

Theron placed both hands on the edge of the bed and leaned toward Kestra, pausing with his thoughts. "We have a new Chief of Security . . " He stopped and rolled his eyes. He wasn't sure what to express. He smiled and continued, "He is a man with struggles of his own, but I think has a true belief in what is important."

He reached up and touched her right shoulder and slowly stroaked down her arm to her elbow. "There is one more thing." Not necessarily to collect his thoughts, but to realize that he had to admit a weakness. "There have been some crewmembers admitting to having headaches and hearing voices in their mind. I have to admit I too have been hearing thoughts in my head that are not my own." After a slow breath he added, "These thoughts have not effected my judgement or duty, but they do weigh heavily on my psyche."

Lt. Theron Rhodes stood erect to attention next to the bed, not looking down. "I am concerned about my own sanity and if I can properly preform my duties. It is my fear of loosing control. It is . . ." He stopped not able to put into words the thoughts in his mind.

His shoulders relaxed and he leaned closer to the wonderful person that lay before him. He leaned down slightly and spoke softly, "Lt. Orexil, your skill and drive are deeply needed here on the Galileo. It would be most helpful if you brought yourself out of that deep abyss." He smiled again, "All you have to do is want to come and be with us . . here. We are all waiting. So . . " standing up straight and speaking in a more normal voice. "Thank you for giving up this time to spend with a junior officer." He looked right and left, then said with humor, "I seriously believe that if you get up they will give you better accomidations."

He then bowed slightly to her and said, "I guess that is all for now." He took a step backward, "I hope to see you again soon . . and hopefully not here." He winked at her. He truely hoped that just one little part of this might help bring her back to the reality of the here and now. Theron turned about and walked away from Kestra toward the exit.
