OOC: A nod to our many airlock conversations in he main lounge LOL

[ON]

Another shift over and he sat on the sofa in his quarters staring at a spot on the wall. He couldn’t sleep again. It had been an agonizing mission. He sighed and grabbed his PADD and headed out the door.

Within a few minutes he arrived at his desired location. Eelim leaned his back against the wall and slid down to the ground. He turned his head to look outside and smiled. Sitting here in this spot he thought of a friend he hadn’t called in a long time. About 37 days to be exact.

It took some doing and a call to coms but he got a secure channel to the USS Dragon. He watched his PADD shimmer and then it was filled with the light blue eyes of a very beautiful young lady. “Lai’lira!”

Her red mouth curved into an excited smile. =/\=Eelim!!!!! Oh my! I haven’t talked to you in forever! I miss you! How are you?!=/\=

He smiled at her enthusiasm. “I have missed you as well ma petite.” She’d been the only person to accept him. They’d been assigned to the same ships until now. She’d been a true friend and he remembered getting in quiet a bit of trouble protecting her. She was of course younger then him and he always found it irritating that Myra had treated her with such disgust. She was convinced that Lai’lira and he were up to no good. But she had genuinely been a friend who’d accepted him for who he was and he accepted her for who she was. He protected her found her naïve and friendly nature got her hurt a lot. He saw the way the crews had treated her. She’d made department head before anyone else despite her young age and her own department had rebelled not wanting to take orders from someone that young. He remembered scaring a few science geeks straight.

He smiled. “So I’m in the airlock now. I remember you said it was a good place to think.”

She grinned, =/\=So how’s the thinking going?=/\=

“Should be fine unless the Admiral accidently vents the airlock.”

She laughed her voice melodic. He did notice, though, shadows under her eyes. “Is everything okay?”

She shook her head. =/\= Oh Eelim!=/\=

He watched her blue eyes fill with unshed tears and he wanted to punch something. “What’s going on ma petite?”

=/\=This place is awful. I created a duty roster the other day and my deputy changed everything and the work orders and said I was too young to understand! I’m his department CO. I told the captain but he said that I was misunderstanding and that my deputy was just trying to help.=/\=

Eelim was glad she couldn’t see his fist curl. He wanted five minutes with that man deputy and that captain. “Ma petite I wish I was there to help.”

She sniffed. =/\= You can’t beat everyone up who upsets me or treats me bad Eelim.=/\=

He looked dark and brooding. “I can try.”

=/\= Eelim I have to go. There is a staff meeting soon.=/\= He watched as she touched the screen. =/\= Can you call me again soon?=/\=

“Of course. Lai’lira it will all work out. I promise.”

She smiled sadly and the com ended.

Galan stood and savagely swore. How could he help her? He looked out the airlock window wishing that the Admiral really did press the button. He was tired of feeling so helpless; of being unable to help the people he cared about.
