Personal Log 1

Posted on 26 Jul 2016 @ 1:13am by Lieutenant Commander Ryan Alexander

473 words; about a 2 minute read

Ryan sat in front of his terminal, having just finished a 10k run. “Computer, start personal log.” He said waiting for the computer to process his request.

“Well, I have been on the Galileo for a few weeks now; and I have been enjoying it here, at least after a fashion.” He said, pausing to take a sip of water and toweling off his forehead before continuing. “Though I do admit that I feel like I have been having trouble making friends. I mean, sure, it is a small ship and I get along with my fellow ships, but sometimes I feel that I on the outside looking in. I have this feeling that I keep talking about the Corps, and people are tired of it or don't care; I keep trying to let it define and validate who I am as person, that I am using it to try to impress people. I was warned that that was going to be something that I would have to get over. I am not in the Corps anymore; I am a Starfleet Officer, not Sergeant Alexander.” He continued before pausing.

He looked over at his nightstand, looking at the picture of his graduating class and the friends he had made there, before turning back to the screen. “I guess I just miss them.” He said to the log, before laughing. “Geez, I need to get out of this funk.” He said continuing to laugh. “Ok, ok. I have been here for a few weeks and have interacted with a lot of the crew. This ship is small, and you see many of the same people day in and day out. My first few hours aboard were fairly chaotic. I checked in with the Captain, or rather Rear Admiral, and had a wonderful conversation. Afterwards I checked in with my section and met a rather friend Andorian.” Ryan said before pausing again to take another drink of water.

“I then was tasked to assist with a medical emergency and spent hours helping move the injured, setting up holodecks and the like, before heading to medical for a physical. The medical staff on board is phenomenal. The CMO is an amazing individual as is her staff. They really made you feel welcome.” Ryan said smiling. “Though, that was really my first day or two, after that, well, after that I encountered the funk I am feeling now. I did get invited to go to the range by the Chief of Security, hopefully that will clear my head. On a positive note, I have been learning a lot as Operations Officer, I just hope that I will continue to improve.” He said before finishing the rest of his water. “I think that covers everything, if there is anything else, I will add a supplemental. Computer, end log.”
