Captain's Log,

The Galileohas been diverted to the planet Lyshan III to investigate what is being referred to as a series of 'manifestations' that have so far given no clue as to their origin to the miners there, or indeed the Cardassian vessel that has been sent to investigate on behalf of their own government.

The facility is a jointly run operation between the Federation and the Cardassian Union as part of the process to get Cardassia back on it's feet - this many years after the war and still they are unable to be fully self reliant.

I am fully expecting the Cardassians to want to flex their muscles - I am sure they still harbour resentment for their losses during the past conflict and will not take kindly to the Federation snooping around what is most likely viewed as their mining operation.

This vessel is not designed for long term combat, but I fully expect the ship and crew to perform well should it come to a contest of phasers. We anticipate arrival in the system within the next few hours, in the meantime I shall be bringing myself up to date with Cardassian diplomacy and a review of existing treaties between our two powers.

Wish me luck.

Computer, end log.
