Personal log - 018 - A Positive Spirit

ON:

The crew of the USS Galileo is returning to the ship. We are just a few days from re-launching. Security and Operations have met and have made several compromises and suggestions to make the boarding of crew smooth and without incident.

My shore leave time was spent mostly alone. I had a longing to see some of the sites of this world, that I had not seen previously. Yet to my surprise, I did not follow through and see them all.

I had found much beauty while hiking the many trails on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. I had only planned on spending 5 days there, but on the 3rd day hiking inland from the heavily populated shore area, I met a woman. (pause) I had not planned on being diverted from my itinerary, but as we walked together, we found we had many things in common.

Her name is Marilouise. She grew up on Terra Nova. Though being human, she had never been to Earth before. She too had heard of the great natural beauty of these islands. We had talked of space travel and the many species we had encountered. Her field of knowledge is in floral biology. She has wanted to gather some specimens for her personal collection from the rain forest that day.

I will not go into the detail of that romantic nature of my encounter in this report. I will say that during our time together, Marilouse helped me see that it was very important in one's life to take time to see the beauty that is around us, no matter where we are. Even in the most barren of deserts, life can be found and usually in the most amazing ways.

The Galileo will depart soon on our next mission. I hope to carry that positive spirit with me as I go.
