Captain's Log, Stardate 67601.2

The gamble paid off. I knew it was a calculated risk but it seems the spirits have graced me with their good fortune. All of our away teams were successful and we were able to rescue many of our personnel from the Borg cube, even Commander Holliday. He has been through a great deal of trauma, obviously, but he seems to be in good spirits nonetheless. I am very grateful to have him back with us, along with several other of our crew members. We even managed to retrieve some of USS Venture's assimilated crew...an added bonus.

While we were conducting the covert operation, another away team led by Commander Blake went to surface to establish first contact with the aliens who control the Borg. From what I understand, they were also successful in their mission, although many of the team members seem a bit spooked by their experience. Apparently these beings maintain a high level of cleanliness, therefore each member of the away team was subjected to follicle removal. I did not ask about the intricate details, but Commander Blake will no doubt put them in her official report to me. Nevertheless, they seem to have been able to establish relations with this new race, and although they seem tentative and very cautious, they seem to understand that we mean them no harm. Their previous experiences with the Borg almost resulted in the destruction of their civilization, and it makes sense they would be somewhat xenophobic after such a trauma.

I had the opportunity to speak with Nar, the delegate to the Le'kt -- that is what they call themselves. She is a quiet woman, very calculated and measured in her responses and approach to diplomacy. It was hard for me to read her body language or sense her expression, mostly because she did not express any, but I get the cautious feeling she is willing to help us. Her people have volunteered to assist with repairs to Galileo at one of their orbital facilities on the far side of the planet. Given the ship's current state, we do not really have a choice if we expect to leave this system in the near future. Starfleet is no doubt worried about us by now and we have not been able to get a transmission out to them ever since the battle with the Borg, and my priority for the moment is the safety of my ship and crew. We must return them to space dock as soon as possible and care for our wounded at proper facilities.

I have accepted Nar's offer and our ship is en route to the repair yard. Our engineers estimate it will take roughly thirty-six hours until we have restored all essential systems. At that point, I intend to thank the Le'kt for their assistance and bid them farewell. I will have much to discuss with the admiralty regarding our encounter.

Computer, end log.
