Sniper Scope

Posted on 30 Sep 2013 @ 10:26am by Commander Scarlet Blake

460 words; about a 2 minute read

Scarlet drank back the coffee with need, the tilt of her head backwards making her grimace with it. She touched the back of her head, still steadily throbbing with pain from the hits it had gotten when she'd been thrown to the deck three times during the attack.

She closed her eyes tightly, running her finger up over the bridge of her nose, a long, shaking breath escaping as she tried to calm herself down. She was angry and frustrated. And it felt completely wrong to be in charge of the ship.

"We're currently being towed by the Borg," she said quietly, but she kept her gaze down on the desk, unable to look at the screen filming her for the log in the Ready Room.

"We have dead, dying, injured, missing and....assimilated," she said quietly, shaking her head, her jaw tight as she turned her face away, looking to the wall as she clasped her hands firmly on the desk in front of her. "The Captain was injected with nanoprobes, she's in the hands of the doctors. The First Officer is...gone. Missing. Assumed assimilated."

Scarlet's eyes narrowed slightly as she shook her head, but closed her eyes as the throbbing in it beat harder with the movement. "I had to negotiate with the Borg. I know it sounds crazy, but that's what happened. Our part of the bargain is to let them stay on the ship as they tow us. I don't like letting those things walk around the ship, but we had little choice. It was that or blow the ship. A decision I didn't relish, with my little girl onboard."

She looked down at that, her frown deepening as she watched her hands, her breath catching in her throat just a touch. "I haven't been able to go and see her yet," she admitted quietly. "I have to assume Lily's alright," she kept her voice level and emotionless. "I haven't been told otherwise, and for now, I'm in charge of the ship and my head has to be here," she tapped the desk, but her throat was tight with it. She knew her place was on the bridge. But it didn't mean that she didn't want to see her girl, make sure she was alright, make sure she wasn't scared.

Scarlet took a breath, drawing her shoulders back slightly as she finally looked to the screen. "We're working on getting the ship stabilised. At the moment, in this state, we're pretty much at the mercy of the Borg. I won't allow that to continue to be the case for much longer," she reached out and ended the log before she could say anything else. For now, she had to just keep her eyes on target.
