Well, here I am. I never thought I would be here. Indeed, this is the last place I had ever considered I'd be, before that commandant showed up. But, I don't think I mind. I don't mind at all. I do believe I love it here.

Yes, it's small, and it is out in the farther reaches of deep space, and filled with people I've never met, but how many other people have this sort of opportunity. I am provided with the best data imaginable on extraterrestrial oceans, and unparalleled chance to study them firsthand. I have always loved the stars...

But, I digress. I have settled in quite nicely. My room is now lovely, I am almost completely cleared for duty, and I may be making some friends. I like the ecologist, Natalie. (Such passion! Yet, in some ways, she seems bitter. Perhaps it's only her personality, though)

It's the business with the Venture, though , which is bothering me. What could have happened to her? Galaxy-class starships don't merely vanish, as far as I know. And there were so many people...so many people on board...where have they all gone?

I don't know. *sighs* I'm no captain, after all.
