First Officer's Log,
Our mission so far in the Rojar system has been uneventful - the more scientifically based members of the crew however appear to be having a field day - there is certainly no shortage of rocks, plants, animals and water samples for them to analyse their way through - I have a feeling I will be wading knee deep in reports before too long.
In personal reflection, the position aboard the Excalibur seems to be becoming more and more appealing with every passing day - scientific discovery on the fringes of Federation space are one thing, but the second biggest chair on a Galaxy class starship is a totally different thing.
The captain was as understanding as she could be with the news that her XO was thinking about leaving hte ship, and I can't blame her for being a little upset given the circumstance. I was the first XO to serve on this ship, and even I thought my tenure would be lasting a little longer than this. Nevertheless, she seems to understand my desire for advancement, and didn't seem to disagree that perhaps the Excalibur could offer me that big break into the command chair on my own ship.
Commander Coleman was equally helpful, albeit in a different way. She sees the chair on one ship being no different to the chair on another, indeed they were all routes towards a command one day. That being said, she's been in the Fleet a damn site longer than I have, so I find it hard to be quite as uncaring as she is.
I will give the matter some further thought before sending my reply to Command - as much as I feel a sense of loyalty to this little ship, the thought of ending up as a Captain of my own vessel one day is too much to ignore.
End log.
