455 words; about a 2 minute read

ON:

Personal log. Liyar. Lieutenant Junior Grade. Vulcan Defense Forces. Starfleet Diplomatic Detachment. Diplomatic Officer. USS Galileo. Recording pending. The computer races through it's usual prompt and as ever, Liyar's silence forces it to repetition. Please commence recording. Please commence recording.

He is told that he does not keep up with his logs. He is supposed to verbally acknowledge the events occurring in his life and in his duties. This is illogical. Liyar is Vulcan. His memory is eidetic.

It is the same train of thought that goes through his mind every single time he tries to record. What is there to say? Sekhet has said the logs will be useful. That they are to be considered part of his conditions of service. What sort of thing does one put in a log? Observations. Analysis. Sekhet informs him that it is a useful meditative outlet. The computer stops beeping as it picks up the traces of a small sigh. Maybe it will be more productive than staring at his wall for yet another night.

Please commence-- Federation-ra, Miran-ra chaikanci. Erresuo tarekkhar, ijzul~.

They tell him he is supposed to use the universal settings or Standard. But it is better this way. As always, he strives to master and control the situation at hand. (In reality, it is a little like a rebellious child stomping their foot.) Liyar waves his hand over the screen and switches it back, turning off the sound and entering the freeform panel area. The light is blinking, telling him that it is recording, but he feels too... it feels... he does not want to speak.

He begins the recording in the only language he is truly comfortable with, drawing out the Vulcan characters with characteristic deliberateness.

He doesn't take the time to realize there's a slight twitch in his expression, a hint of otherwise hidden amusement. For a moment, he hopes someone really is listening. They would, at the very least, get an accurate determination of his opinion on personal logs. He leaves Travnik's signature in, and switches the mode expression to Standard, before tapping the off button and sending it to his files.

OFF:

Liyar
