Captain's Log, Stardate 66246.4

The Galileo is now in her celestial home and we are making good time on our way to Starbase 234 to resupply. Our launch from San Francisco Fleet Yards went better than I had ever hoped. Not a single system failure or hiccup through the whole process. I'm very proud of my crew, they have worked so hard over the past few weeks and they've all seemed to settle in nicely. I've noticed a few friendships developing amongst them, which will serve them well in the upcoming months....it's always important to have companionship in the depths of space, I think.

Speaking of crew, several of them have caught my attention in a positive way. I was recently introduced to a Crewman Ziyal...at least that's his abbreviated name. His species is called W'qa'arr and he comes from the Andromeda galaxy. I was quite shocked to learn that he was considered an outcast of sorts amongst his own people, and traveled for a year to reach the Alpha Quadrant. I personally find him to be extremely talented, and his knowledge of biotechnology is unmatched by anyone I've ever met. Despite his unusual appearance, he is very friendly and enthusiastic, and I think he brings a good energy to those around him.

I've also taken on a Red Squad cadet named Mor'an. Well, technically she is my XO's responsibility since he was one of her former instructors, but I will keep an eye on her also. She is a rather unique young lady and is from a race called Ta'rkan. They are a very beautiful and regal looking species, and are very attractive to the eye. Mor'an is the first of her kind who I've ever met, but I was also surprised to learn that her mentor, another Ta'rkan lady named Del'an, had traveled to San Francisco to join the Galileo and observe her pupil, as well as my crew. I saw no reason to object to her presence, so I cleared it with Starfleet and welcomed her aboard. I'm looking forward to spending time with both of them and learning more about their culture.

On a more solemn note, I received a coded transmission from Starfleet a few hours ago. There have been some disturbing new developments regarding our mission and my command staff is to be briefed once we arrive at Starbase 234. Whatever reservations I had about this mission a week ago have now grown considerably. I'm going to be briefing my crew within the next hour and I plan to keep them informed as much as possible with the goal of preparing us for any unforeseen circumstances. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Computer, end log.
