Chief Science Officer's Personal Log, Stardate 66744.8,

A lot has happened since my last entry. I found Kiri collapsed in her office a few days ago, and because of my own problems the sight of her almost sent me over the edge. In fact, just thinking about it now is starting to worry me. There was just so much blood, and when she went down she hit her head against the side of the desk, making everything so much worse.

And then there was an incident with Athlen, who was thrown in the brig like some animal. Our new security chief, Jeremy Stone, decided that he was going to make himself known by reinterpreting Starfleet rules and regulations. It's a good thing I avoid the mess hall, because apparently spilling soup there can land me in prison for assault and littering, among any number of other false charges. I went down to the brig and demanded his release, but Stone refused despite him being under my authority, so I had to call for Commander Holliday. Fortunately, he made sure true justice was served and had Athlen released with all the charges dropped.

This Stone guy, though, is one strange character. He came to my quarters later the same day I'd fought with him over Athlen, but not to fight with me. He heard me playing my piano and wanted to hear some more, even though he kept reminding me how much he disliked me. When I told him to come in, he refused and said that he was irritating me and left. And his hands were bleeding, and he was sweaty and nearly out of breath; at first I was a little scared - after seeing the way he reacted that morning, I thought maybe he'd come to do me in.

But then I ran into him a few days later in the corridor, and he invited me into his quarters along with an operations officer who recognised me from some terrible writing I had published a long time ago. Stone argued with a doctoral thesis, which became the basis for my most popular book - he said that my methodology was flawed. What nerve! What the hell does he know, anyway? And he kept going on about us needing a chaperone in order to be left alone, as if I were going to start kissing him or something. He's really strange. Alarmingly so, I would say.

Anyway, I guess this has turned into me whining again. I'll try to write something more substantial next time.

End log.
