Captain's Log, Stardate 69348.3

"Galileo is now in pursuit of an identified contact within the vicinity of Cold Station 31's asteroid field. Sensors first detected this anomaly through passive scans; specifically tachyon particles. I made the decision to go against standard operating procedures and EMCON protocols to order the initiation of an active gravitic sensor pulse. Its dissemination revealed our presence throughout the sub-sector but the sensor returns located an anomalous reading just outside of weapons range...possibly a cloaked starship. We're closing on the position as I record this and I've brought the ship to yellow alert.

"This might be my first engagement with a non-Federation starship as a commanding officer... If that's what this is. My estimates - based on local intelligence - presume it to be Klingon in nature. It could be a Bird of Prey and its elusiveness lends credibility to the theory. But that prospect adds even more questions. How could a small-crewed Klingon warship make it into the Pleiades Cluster without support vessels nearby? Or a starbase? Those are questions I don't want to know the answer to.

"Before I conclude, there's still been no reports or transmissions from the away teams. I'd consider this an urgent matter under any other circumstance but I take it to mean they've arrived at their objective and are proceeding with their mission as ordered. They're not authorized to transmit active comms except under the most urgent circumstances. So for now, Galileo will wait for them and continue to investigate this anomaly.

"End log."
