"Computer open Chief Medical Officers log"

[Log is open]

"Well we are well on our way to the two colonies and while I have been kept out of the chain of command on this ship that does not mean that I do not know what more or less is going on and what might happen.

I have filed my protests, given my medical input and it all seems to have been ignored. I have even as a sort of ambassador from Akkadia, even filed a protest on how we are perceiving the potential loss of life.

This Genesis device has become something well to consuming to Rassmussen and to the Federation. After studying a bit of what information I was allowed access to I partially understand that it was dangerous.

We ourselves went through very dangerous times and situation and from our own history know that destruction of life should be the very last thing. We as well destroyed virtually all traces of devices then feared. Every school child on Akkadia is taught the phrase: 'We put away the past in order to preserve the future.'

However, I have come to think that by ignoring that past and trying to erase it is the wrong thing to do. What was the Terran quote by George Santayana, and then paraphrased by Winston Churchill. Something about failing to learn or remember the past are doomed to repeat it.

There is a few things more that perhaps I can impress upon Commander Kohl and Captain Rasmussen before we make another mistake. That is that from everything I have learned from the survivors of the Trial is that the Tholians have a high probability of gaining the knowledge of these Genesis device. Perhaps the computer did not have a complete library of exactly how to build one but they know enough.

Thus even if we swoop in, destroy some colonies and murder, yes murder hundreds of individuals there is no way that Rasmussen is going to contain the knowledge. I am reminded of one of our own tales of the gods making a mistake of separating the lovers and realizing they did something wrong and yet could not make proper amends. Earth has a similar tale about some thing called letting the genie out of the bottle.

I think in this case this is exactly what has happened. The knowledge even if not full has been let out. The Federation made a mistake in the past but trying to murder hundreds of people to cover that mistake yet again is nothing but another mistake.

So let this log which I am sending on to both Captain Rasmussen and Commander Kohl serve as my official protest to the potential course of action that these two are pursuing. The Genesis orders are illegal.

I will end with the Foundational Quote:

'We the lifeforms of the United Federation of Planets determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, and to reaffirm faith in the fundamental rights of sentient beings, in the dignity and worth of all lifeforms, in the equal rights of members of planetary systems large and small, and to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of interstellar law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of living on all worlds, and for these ends, to practice toleration and live together in peace with one another, and to unite our strength to maintain interstellar peace and security, and to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institutions of methods, that weapons of destruction shall not be used, save in the common interest, and to employ interstellar resources for the promotion of the welfare of all.'

I would also remind those that the defense of 'I was just following orders' has failed as a defense for a very long time.

Computer close log and transmit a copy to Captain Rasmussen and Commander Kohl."
