ON:

"When we left the briefing, I finally asked Lake if he'd heard from Andreus," Scarlet continued the log, which had so far only been a recap of the sparse details they knew about their new objective, and yet another list of mundane day to day routines that had been close to numbing her brain. Thanks to Lily, she'd been kept level through the monotony.

"I've been thinking about him a lot recently. It must be the nostalgia kick of enduring the same routine in space for so long without so much as unusual space dust to break it up," she shrugged lightly at the situation.

"He said he hadn't heard from him," she said slowly, as if considering it. "He lied. Lake is good at lying, that's why I know he did it. He has this...absolute certainty in how he says something that isn't entirely truthful, as if showing how convinced of it he is himself. And that's how he said it."

"It doesn't matter," she added with a slight shake of her head, clearly not bothered by it. "It's his business, if he doesn't want to share it, I understand. But...it makes me wonder *why*."

Scarlet rubbed her shoulder absently, circling it slowly as she looked at the desk with a slight frown. "I know that he's still...grieving. For his ex-husband. Andreus and Lake were...well," she shrugged with a small smile. "Perhaps those feelings and thoughts are all...mixed up with each other. Not because the two men and relationships were interchangeable, quite the opposite. Kellin and Andreus are....were...very different men. Both magnificent in their own way, but different. I think Lake sometimes saw them in the same light though...or more, that he thought that they both saw him in the same way. It's hard to understand why someone would love you unreservedly if you can't understand how someone could."

She stopped at the words, holding her breath in silence for a long moment as she looked somewhere into the distance away from the screen that recorded her. The words echoed in her head, making her swallow awkwardly.

She physically shook it away, her features fixing themselves back into a cool, emotionless expression. "Anyway, it's none of my business. I suppose I just wondered if Andreus has been tempted any closer to the Captain's chair after our conversation...it would have been a little while ago now."

Scarlet paused, hesitating for a moment before a small, relenting smile came to her. "Or maybe I was just rooting for them. Not that I'm a romantic," she suddenly looked to the screen with an arched eyebrow, pointing to it firmly. "Not in any way, shape or form..."
