LuAnn found a nice little park to go walking in the moonlight. It was her favorite way of relaxing. She could almost hear the trees whispering to each other and she passed beneath them.

"Hello," she said to a large, leafy tree. "You feel very peaceful. You must like it here." The tree's leaves seemed to dance in the mild breeze. "That's what I thought. I like trees. You don't seem worried about the mundane. You take life at face value."

The breeze momentarily picked up and she laughed. "You are most eloquent, Mr. Tree. I thank you for your wisdom."

Still smiling, she continued walking around the park, enjoying the play of shadows on the ground. It was too bad there wasn't a pond nearby. That would be perfect. But they probably had rules here about skinny dipping.

Holodeck trees were soulless, but no one bothered her if she chose to walk naked through the trees, or take a moonlight swim.

Once, she'd been stationed on Obsidian Colony. That was a good posting. There was a Marine base on the planet, and she had her own property with a pond where she could swim whenever she wanted. She sighed. She missed that place.

But there was always more to look forward to, and space was truly vast. She paused under another tree and put her hand on its bark. "Hello there," she said to the tree. "Do you mind if I share your space for a moment?"

A cloud passed in front of the moon. It only lasted for amoment, but she thought she felt the tree sigh. "You like the moon, too, don't you? It is very nice, isn't it? I love how it paints everything a pale silver. It's magical, isn't it? Do you ever see fairies in the moonlight? I have. Well, once. But when it started to dance, I left. It's never a good idea to watch a fairy dance. That's when they bewitch you."

The cloud passed and she patted the tree. "Nice talking to you."

She continued on, pausing from time to time to talk to a tree or bush. Or pause to simply listen. It was nice. Refreshing. Rejuvenating.

At last, she was once again at the place where she'd begun her walk, and it was time to go back to her room for the night.
