"Fires, that took long enough..."

Alexion frowned as he sat back from the computer, finally taking a good mouthful of his drink that had been sat there waiting while he filled and sent the application.

At almost 230 years old, there had been a lot to cover in the application. And it wasn't something he'd done often, being more used to going where he was sent. The last time had been when he'd volunteered as a civilian doctor with the borg threat, leading to his presence at Wolf 359.

And that application had been without his Starfleet service to add to the list of information required. Starfleet Medical, the Dominion War, instructing at the Academy, the quirk ridden Ji'an, the ill fated Venture...and of course, Galileo.

It had felt right to apply when he'd seen the Galileo's name. It felt like unfinished business...it was the best way to put it. And he was fully aware that Laeon wanted to be back into space. He and his son held no real affiliation or feeling for Earth. They'd already done the sight-seeing thing back when he'd been in Starfleet Medical. They didn't feel the need to stay again. No, he knew his son was just as eager to get back into space as he was...and stay there awhile.

Perhaps it came from the lack of a real home. With their home lost, it just didn't feel right to settle. It wasn't the same. It wasn't right.

Besides, he knew how fond Laeon had become of many of the Galileo crew. He'd eat his boots if a number of them didn't also choose to return to the Galileo.

He'd never claimed to be the best father, but if he could make Laeon more comfortable, he'd find a way to do it. And he was certain that the Galileo would do that.

And...well maybe Alexion had ended up quite liking it there too.
