Rejected. All four of her applications had been rejected. Granted, two of the positions were filled between the time the openings were posted and the time they received her application, but it was a rejection nonetheless. And the other two. Well, the other two simply said she was not suited for the position. Not suited? She had plenty of experience as a science officer and CHIEF science officer. And she had real world experience.

Marisa sat down in her chair and sighed. But what did experience matter when she'd been pulled as a counselor? That, too, was in her record. Wouldn't they note why it had been pulled? The destruction of the Cartagena? The death of her friends on Kreanus? Probably not. Starfleet officers weren't supposed to be affected by things like that. She sighed again. She really did need to get her head back on straight. Maybe she really should step down for a while and just teach.

She pulled up the list again. The USS Voyager no longer had a position for Chief Science Officer. That left just one. The USS Galileo. Well, it would be fitting that this be the last position she applied for as a Starfleet Officer.

She went to her computer and opened up an application. She carefully filled it out, then added her civilian academic credentials, her teaching experience, and her fieldwork. Finally, she attached the letters of recommendation she'd received. "If that, along with my past experience as a Chief Science Officer, isn't enough to get the job, I might as well retire," she said to herself. She was only half kidding.

Since when had it become so difficult to get a job? she asked herself. Then again, she still had plenty of career opportunities. If not Starfleet, there were others.

"I need to get out of here for a while," she said to herself. She'd been doing more of that lately. She chuckled softly. She needed to take some of her own advice. Yes, the past few months had been tough, but so was she. She'd get through this.

Then, because she didn't want to sit and think about the application or her future, she hit submit and headed for the hills to hike.

When she returned, she would try some meditation. She hadn't done that much lately, either. It would definitely help her mood, if not her career opportunities.
