One in Fifty Million

220 words; about a 1 minute read

“I am not quite certain whether or not I believe in a higher power; even if I were to discount the religious or theological beliefs systems of other races, there are still various Vulcan and Xenexian tribes that believe in a God. Having spent my life between Xenex and Vulcan, I never truly came to believe wholly one way or the other. Yet, as I sit down to make this log entry, recent events cause me to wonder if I should have.

Admiral Saalm has… helped me… to observe a unique – albeit, subtle – change in pigmentation across my face and hands. Under the ultraviolet spectrum these changes appear to be quite severe. In the interests of caution, I have made an appointment with Doctor Allyndra Warraquim, former medical officer aboard the now-destroyed USS Galileo. I have no idea what this means, or if it is characteristic of a medical ailment I’d previously been unaware of. Perhaps it is a simple result of some of the more exotic meals I have shared with the Admiral over the past few days. Perhaps it is more.

I will not know until I meet with doctor Warraquim. Until then, I will try to believe that if there is a deity, that he, she, or they are benevolent and not malevolent.

Computer, end log.”
