LT Cameron's Personal Log - Change is Good

374 words; about a 2 minute read

Lieutenant Cameron sat down at the small terminal in his temporary quarters aboard Starbase 001 and contemplated the log entry that he was about to make. By now, he'd served on Luna for just over three years, and was as close to eager for a new assignment as any half-Vulcan could be. After his superior had alerted him to a potential transfer opportunity, Cameron chose to enter his name into the poo of candidates.

A few days later, he'd received transient orders to Starbase 001, where he was now performing odd jobs in and around the station, waiting for his would-be new assignment.

"Computer, begin recording."

The computer chirped with an audible tone.

"Personal log entry, Lieutenant Cameron. As per Starfleet directive, I have been assigned to Starbase 001 under temporary status as an Operations officer. The nature of these orders, along with a notable absence of additional information, can only lead me to presume that my request for a transfer from Luna has been accepted, or is at the very least in the process of being considered.

Being on Starbase 001 has been an educational experience, as its crew and civilian complement is notably larger than that of Luna outpost. Within the past several days, I have met a peculiar self-proclaimed gentlemen-of-science, and have aided one of the station's security officers in securing a young Nausiccan female, whom had apparently been conducting acts of thievery on board the station for some time now. While a larger environment has been a welcome changed of pace, I am... hopeful... that my next assignment is not so... spacious.

In an effort to identify my next would-be assignment, I have been closely monitoring incoming and outgoing vessels within the sector. At this time, my investigation has yielded several candidates, and I have not been able to narrow the list down further with the exception of the fact that there is a very large compliment of personnel formerly from the USS Galileo, which was destroyed several months ago."

The half-Vulcan rose his brow at that thought, then resumed his report.

"One of my academy instructors once told me that in any case, change is good. We will see if he is correct in whatever case I find myself in next."
