Final Log - Stardate 68193.7

Posted on 01 Jun 2017 @ 12:56am by Lieutenant Min Zhao

321 words; about a 2 minute read

For the first time in months, Min felt at ease and herself. Another day of administrative duty, of not really doing much of anything important. She wasn't sure what the next few months would entail but for now, her world was back in one peice.

"Computer. Begin Log."

Sitting down, holding Lian in her arms, nursing the 11 month old child for the first time in who knows when, she sat down in front of the recorder.

"So this is my final log as Chief of Operations of Galileo, may she rest in peace. She was a good ship, my home, a place I loved and laughed, cried and swore. But now I'm turning over a new chapter, one I hope is as fun as the last year and a half has been."

She paused, adjusting Lian a little who was hiding beneath a small modesty shawl. "The last few months have been hard on me, watch Lian grow up from a distance, her here on earth, me out in space. Almost losing my life, leaving her an orphan, even though I know her Aunt & Uncle would raise her like their own, really cut deep. Space is vast, the dangers great and I took one step too close to that edge."

"With some help, did I mention I'm not fond of counsellors, so speaking with Lt Sandoval was a big leap for me, she helped me see a better path for me and Lian. With her help I got a transfer to Earth, working in the orbital control complex at Spacedock 1. It's not glamorous, but it certainly won't be boring, and I'm a simple transport away from the family I haven't truly seen in years."

"It'll be good to reconnect with my brother and his wife, get to know my nieces. Mom is exctatic she has me bad, Dad is his usual calm self. Life as usual, just with more grandchildren."
