Abbey writhed in her sleep, she hadn't had a pleasant dream since arriving on the Galileo and since its destruction, and now the complete embarrassment of what happened done the Dujaq. Her nightmares were as fierce as ever. They had been given temporary beds on the small ship and that was hard enough to sleep without knowing that as soon as she closed her eyes another hell would take her...

... Abbey walked on the baron wasteland for days, every time she fell into this world she'd set off in a different direction towards the fiery mountain, the blood red river and the black castle. She'd walk and walk until the soles of her shoes ran thin and she could feel the ashen floor underfoot burning them like hot coals. Putting a hand over her scorched face Abbey tried to see where the heat was coming from but there was no sun like someone would expect, just black wavy tendrils snapping out like smoky octopus arms and those three old hags which always taunted her from above.

She screamed at them her voice hoarse and cracked from dehydration and the warm dry air. Tonight she decided to walk down to the river, she always thought about drinking the river's water but the closer she got the harder it was to ignore the screaming and whining of the dead that occupied its currents.

Standing above the rush of blood she could see the face of everyone she had killed and most lately the face of the Klingon she had beaten with her bare hands. His face drifted away to make room for another, this time it was an exact reflection of herself, except this face was soft and innocent. "Why?" She asked in her voice and she shook her head. "I had to, they would have done horrible things to you, things that you couldn't imagine. Things you wouldn't want to imagine." She pleaded fighting back the tears, she couldn't afford to cry. The crying always brought the attention of the Hags and she couldn't deal with them tonight.

"I had so much to live for, and you took that from me. You took my life and with it, you stole my future" Her voice was distant now as if she was floating away from her and back into the depths of the miserable river. Abbey watched her hands clenched, she was about to reply when she heard a crunch behind her.

Turning she saw the entire crew of the Galileo. Some were missing limbs, had wounds, knife wounds some even had actual broken hearts in their hands and others were just pale reflections of themselves - ghosts she thought to herself.

"Abbey " They all said in unison sending a chill down her spine like hades himself was running his pointed index finger down her spine and she wondered if anyone could be so cold. Then she realized she was that cold. "Many have died at your hands and because of you more will die, unless you learn how to control your heart and with it, your mind. Until then you will live a life without love, happiness and you will die alone and hated by all" This time it was the one person she couldn't stand to hear it from. Her father.

Realizing she was now crying the Galileo crew had shimmered into nothing and the screams of the three hags echoed around her as if she was in a giant cavern. She breathed in a deep breath, closed her eyes and fell back into the river. The hands of the dead clawing away at her skin feverishly.

Abbey woke with a startling cry, she looked around frantically and thanked the gods she had not disturbed anyone. Her bed was damp with sweat, blood, and tears. She had new scratches over her entire body and she cursed herself for taking the cowards way out and not facing the fates. She got up and quickly went to work on recycling the ruined bedding and putting on the fresh set she had prepared earlier knowing that like all the other nights this would happen. Quickly she worked and it wasn't long before she was back in bed. She knew this time she would sleep soundlessly but sometimes that was worse than dreaming at all.
