Caged, confined, imprisoned, trapped, detained, a captive, penned in like animals.

Splendora sighed as her body slid down the walls of the brig and she closed her eyes. Her hands were stained with the misery of her fellow crew mates, her fellow captives. She’d had medical training and had used it to help set bones, mend wounds. Now, hours later, she sat with her back against the wall her eyes closed.

Memories of the night with Lamar floated to her mind and she couldn’t help but think about how funny the mind was. Here, in the midst of fear and misery, she was thinking of passion. It was what was keeping her going. That and the knowledge that she’d saved her pet bird.

A shuddering breath escaped her as the events of the last few days tore through her mind threatening her sanity in the process. The Admiral was gone, the Galileo gone, her home gone, some of her friends and crew mates gone.

The pain of it all and the pain of those around her threatened to crush her. Being a telepath she sensed everything. She sensed what all those around her were feeling and that just amplified her own pain and sorrow.

She wanted to cry, couldn’t cry, needed to cry, but… what would be the use of it all? Vulcans would say that it was illogical. Her people the Romulans would fight, the Betazoid in her just wanted to hug those around her and cry.

She didn’t do well confined. She had a hidden fear, one that she told nobody about. She was claustrophobic and being here, in the Klingon cell she felt the icy needles of her phobia creeping in and turning her blood cold. Dark shadows danced in her vision and it was getting hard to breath.

She did something she hadn’t done in a long time. She prayed. She called upon long forgotten Gods of Romulus pleading, not for herself, for her crew and friends. For their safety, for their souls, for their hearts, for their families.

A single tear slid down her cheek blazing a hot path of sorrow to her chin. A drop pooled there and dripped onto her hand. The knowledge that her weakness was winning drove her down even more. She tried to shake the dark cloud away but the waking panic in her soul would not have it.

She tried to breathe, one, two, three, breaths in.

One, two, three breaths out.

A chill filled her body. Cold sweat began to coat her face and neck. She would fight the panic. She couldn’t let her fear win.

One, two…breaths in.

One, two…breaths out.

One, two…breaths in.

One, two…breaths out.

Her eyes closed tightly and her hands balled into fists. She would win, she would have this one victory in this cold cage that was to be her home for Gods of Romulus knew how long.

One…breath in.

One…breath out.

One breath....darkness began to seep in.

One…breath in.

One breath out…darkness overcame her. The bliss of unconsciousness claimed her.

Panic had won.

Her fear of enclosed spaces, of being trapped won.

Darkness there and nothing more.
