History Repeated

385 words; about a 2 minute read

"Seems like a good a time as any to do a personal log..." Aurora said, getting settled into the cockpit of the ship's waverider atmospheric craft "sitting around while the ship goes to hell in a handbasket around me. So yeah, it was totally a trap." She activated the master console and began the emergency launch sequence.

"I killed a Klingon. I think. I shot at him and he dropped and didn't move. But then again, most people tend to do that when you shoot at them. I didn't stick around to meet his friends." Aurora sighed. "Shooting that Klingon was about the only thing I've done today. I sat on my butt as the relief helm officer just off the bridge, but no one there needed. Then I got sent to the shuttlebay. That's when I met the Klingons..."

Aurora coughed unhealthily.

That Klingon I shot at... he was quicker to the draw. You'd think a disruptor burst to the guts would hurt more. I can barely feel it. I'm having trouble stopping the bleeding though. I hope there's a first aid kit on this thing... who knows the last time someone actually checked--"

Aurora cut off abruptly, hearing voices. She raised her hand phaser to the access hatch. She thought the voices were speaking FedStandard.

"Whoever they are, they've got one minute if they're riding with me. I've stayed long enough." The order to abandon ship had been given what seemed like hours ago. It had probably only been a few minutes.

"History repeats itself." Aurora said with a shaky, pained laugh. "Here I am, all shot up. Again. Posted up in a cramped cockpit that's probably about to be shot up too. Again." Aurora considered just staying to die on the ship. They'd call her a hero. She should've done that four years ago, instead of watching her life and career spiral out of hand.

"Hey! All aboard!" Aurora called out to the voices that were getting closer. She had no idea who they were. "Starfleet will still find a way to nail my ass to the wall... they always do. They'll say I'm the one who left early. I heard prison isn't too bad. I'll probably be going there, especially if I find out any of those shuttles launched under capacity."
