Admiral's Log, Stardate 67869.8

It seems our transit to Starbase 234 has been delayed. Our long-range sensor arrays have detected a low-band transmission barely detectable on normal frequencies. We have managed to isolate the signal and triangulate its origin.... My crew believes it is coming from an old Federation dilithium freighter, SS Recluse, but we have not been able to confirm this reading as of yet.

The signal's origin has been located within the outer perimeter of the Paulson Nebula. This does not make it any easier for us to investigate due to the nebula's notorious EM interference with sensor arrays. However, my Science and Operations officers were able to refine and interpret the transmission which appears to be a distress call of some type.

Mister Wyatt has scanned the nearby sector and we are the only starship within range to respond to the call within a reasonable amount of time. I have altered course to investigate and put our resupply on hold until we can determine the next course of action. Estimated time to arrival at maximum warp is now...31 hours. I know the crew was looking forward to reaching spacedock after our past deployment, but it appears we have a new duty to perform.

Further updates will be transmitted once we approach the signal source and have determined the situation.

Computer, end log
