Personal Log 012

Posted on 28 Aug 2012 @ 8:48am by Captain Jonathan Holliday

600 words; about a 3 minute read

First Officer Jonathan Holliday reporting, serving as Acting Captain at this time.

Galileo's crew have, so far, performed far better than I would have expected, their response to a stressful situation has been admirable, and the speed of repairs has been beyond what I could have originally predicted.
It seems that a stressful situation has led to the crew bonding much faster than anyone could have hoped for, and from simply wandering the decks, I can see that this crew really does care for each other.

The loss of our Chief Tactical Officer, Lieutenant Orexil, to injury has me a little concerned. Coupled with the death of Mr Pawlak, it leaves us with very little experience on the Bridge in a combat situation. If the Captain were here, I would have replaced Kestra myself, but it doesn't take a genius to recognise that I would not be able to command the Bridge and man the Tactical station at the same time. I simply hope that Mr Rhodes' training and aptitude for new situations is sufficient to meet the task until we can acquire a suitable replacement upon our return to Earth.

Engineering are working well, even without Chief Quinn to lead the efforts as usual. Whilst he recovers from his injuries, Miss Peers has done an exemplary job keeping our engineers on task. I intend to relay this to Command upon her return to issue an appopriate commendation.

Additionally, Cadet Mor'an has stepped up to the plate as well....she has now served at both Ops and Tactical, and for the most part is learning well. Her work is concise and efficient, and I shall have to ensure that I relay this back to Red Squad in order to keep the Academy Commandant off my back.

Sickbay is under substantial strain at the moment -although I hear the use of our EMH program has helped to reduce the burden somewhat. Now I see the benefit of holograms aboard starships, especially on ones this small and with such a high casualty rate. I'm sure the whole crew will be looking forward to shore leave as soon as we get home.

On a personal note...I would like to formally record my sorrow for the length of time that it has taken for us to be in a situation to rescue both Commander Saalm, and Lieutenant Coleman. Let the record show that the loss of these officers to the Klingons was not the fault of the crew, but of me and me alone. I will get them back....I owe them that much.

When the Galileo is sufficiently repaired, I intend to lead a mission to retrieve our officers which I will lead personally....no matter what the outcome.

I must also record a security concern....we now have a single Vorta aboard the Galileo...apparently a defector. I do not know what to make of the situation, having read up on the available Starfleet Intelligence files, most of what he has told me makes sense...defective programming leading to a disagreement with the Dominion heirarchy isn't unheard of in the Vorta, but the fact that he managed to escape on a highly unusual vessel, and remain hidden for so long gives me room for concern.
I have no doubt that Miss Coleman will want to investigate for herself once she is back on board.

For now I have ordered him to be confined to quarters under guard at all times. We shall see where this thread of our story ends up once we have dealt with these Klingons.

Computer, end log.
