Mission:
Episode 02 - Resupply
Location: USS Galileo - XO's Office
Timeline: MD07 - 0800hrs
[ON]
The XO of the USS Galileo had returned to his ship a new man. With a reinvigorated devotion to both his post and to Starfleet as a whole, Jonathan Holliday exuded an aura of confidence and authority that he had not had since Galileo had left spacedock all that time ago.
Having virtually sprinted from his quarters, John felt like he could have taken on the entire Klingon Defence Force singlehandedly in physical combat and still come out on top. He knew full well that his office would be loaded with dozens if not hundreds of reports, requsition orders and status records for him to read up on, but that did nothing to dull the fire of ambition burning within his very being.
The corridors of Galileo were still relatively quiet, with so many of the crew on shore leave and the repair teams currently focusing their efforts on the last few hull breaches that littered the Nova-class hull from stem to stern with little order or regularity. Whilst this might have been unusual had Galileo actually been in space, down on the surface of Vega, it was nothing out of the ordinary, and in fact meant that getting from one location to another on the compact vessel was made far easier than might have been expected during usual operating periods.
Reaching his office doors, the XO thumbed his access code into the door panel and smirked with satisfaction as they slid apart in front of him. Stepping inside the dimly lit room, the computer quickly brought the light levels up to standard settings, and activated the Commander's rather expansive desk systems, interfacing quickly with every database and system on the ship and loading his most recent messages.
Settling into his chair, John picked up a PADD, looking at the data with an expression of sheer serenity on his face, before pausing and returning it to the desk.
"Computer...seal the doors to this room."
After a moment the computer acknowledged, with an audible click signalling that the doors he had passed through only moments ago had locked into place and weren't going to be opening any time soon.
"Much better..." The Commander blurted out to nobody in particular, before a wry smile spread across his face once more, and he sat back in his chair, propping his feet up on the corner of his desk; an action that days ago would have been unthinkable to the rigid XO.
"Computer, access the ship's musical database....early 20th century Earth Jazz."
And as those gentle tones and cascading notes began to wash over him, Jonathan Holliday finally admitted to himself, he was content.
