Makrum and Willis both dropped the sails almost simultaneously, as the small craft sped down the face of the seventy-foot high wave into the base of another newly forming wave. The entire boat was swallowed up by the dark and angry sea as it rammed into the wave's base.

This one may hurt...a bit. was Quinn's last thought before the wave consumed the sailors and their vessel.

now, the continuation....

ON]

The two men laid out on the deck of the small craft. The maelstrom that they had somehow lived through was over, leaving the sky clear, and the air cool and crisp. "There must be a million stars out tonight. It's beautiful. Tarish would love it."

Willis looked over to his long time friend and mentor. "What the hell happened with you two anyway? One second you can't keep your hands of one another and are supposed to get married and she is pregnant, then she resigned and high-tails it back to mommy and daddy on Betazed?"

Quinn shook his head as he reached into a cooler to grab another beer. "I don't know, kid. I love her, she loves me, but the family structure for Betazoids is much different than that of Terrans. We have no problem telling mom and dad to go to hell and stay out of my life. It's different for them. Plus, her father is sick and really needs her more than I do right now."

"Yeah, I get that and all," Willis was now on his side with his head resting on his hand, with a bended elbow, while the other hand was reaching for another beer. ", but you two are in love, and all that. It's a real love, Markum. Everyone's seen it."

Quinn opened his bottle and took a long swig. He placed the bottle onto the deck and sighed. "I know, but sometimes love isn't enough." The two laid silently for what seemed like hours, just looking into the bright lights that were shining from the cosmos above.

Willis got up and went below into the small cabin, then returned in dry clothes and took the wheel from Quinn. "Go get some dry clothes on you old fart, before you catch pneumonia and I have to drown your ass for keeping me up all night with your coughing."

Quinn laughed and retreated below, taking the comical, but sensible advise from Willis.

Suddenly a high pitched scream came from the cabin. "Willis, Willis! Get your ass down here!!! PRONTO!!!"

The young man busted through the door and stopped to find Markum standing on his rack, only in socks and a T-shirt, holding a boot drawn back and another boot at the base of the port wall of the cabin. "What the hell, man?! What are you doing?"

"There, there! That spider. Kill it. Kill that damn thing! It was on me. IT WAS ON ME!" screamed Quinn

Willis began laughing so hard that he began snorting, and unable to stop. He fell to one knee, bellowing out with raw laughter. "What...wha...what the hell? You are...scar...scared of a little spiddder?? Oh my God, that is AWESOME!"

Quinn's face turned bright red. "Stop your damn laughing and kill that thing. It's huge!!" Quinn threw his boot at Willis in a fit of frustration. "Dammit, Arthur! Kill it!"

Willis stood up, barely, while still laughing, having to wipe the tears form his eyes due to his hysterical laughing spell. "Okay, okay!" Willis answered though several chuckles. He walked over to the spider on the wall and slowly reached out towards it.

"What the hell are you doing? Kill it I said, not make it a stupid pet and name it Rover you moron! It's a spider! KILL. IT. NOW." Quinn said with a near spiteful tone.

"Relax, old man." Willis said with another chuckle as the small spider leaped into his hand. "It's harmless. It's a White-Back Jumping Spider. They are indigenous here. Children keep them as pets, and may even name them Rover."

Quinn got down off of his rack and reached for the rest of his clothes. "I don't care if that thing is one of the Prophets of Bajor. You keep that man-killer from me, or it, or both of you will get tossed overboard."

Willis laughed again and nodded. "Okay, okay, don't get so excited. I'll keep it away from you. Jeesh, you screamed like my six year old niece. Who would of thunk-it, the old, cranky Chief is terrified of a little spider."

Quinn, now fully dresses pointed a finger at Willis and his new pet. "Not a word, or I'll tell everyone about that time on Risa and the male masseuse with the large idol, toy, thing."

Willis' mouth dropped. "What? Damn you, Quinn! You promised never to bring that up."

"Hey, Junior, I wasn't the one that was getting things up that night." Quinn retorted. "Now, not a word, right?"

"Shit." remarked Willis. "I hate you sometimes. You know that?"

"I love you too, kid." Quinn answered with a smile as he turned for the cabin door. "Last one up buys the next round....and has to steer.!" He said as he suddenly raced out of the cabin and back on deck.

Willis exited the cabin and sat behind the wheel, but not before reaching into the cooler and tossing Quinn his beer. "Here, tattle-tale, take your damn beer." he said with a chuckle and smile. After getting situated the young NCO looked out to the horizon. "Hey, you see that?"

"See what?" asked Quinn, "It better not be that spider, or so help me..."

"No, no. There, bearing three-two-five. Must be a kilometer or so away."

Markum stood up and placed a hand over his forehead and squinted. "Looks like a bonfire, or something."

"Yeah. That's what I was thinking. What do you think? Wanna check it out?" asked the young man.

"Sure, your driving. Maybe they have some marshmallows or something." Markum stated while finishing off his beer.

"Okay, then. To the small island we go."
