Mission: Episode 20 - Reconstruction
Location: USS Galileo-A - Sickbay
Timeline: MD 05, 1530hrs

ON:

The doors to sickbay opened and in strode the tank top and leggings clad form of Ensign Turell holding her right arm close to her stomach, without waiting for anyone to speak to her she headed for one of the bio beds and sat up on the edge of it.

Nusien noticed the new arrival from his desk and made his way over to where she sat. In one hand he held a PADD that contained the reports on the latest patients. The rest of his attention he gave to the Ensign. "Ensign Turell is there a problem with your arm?" He smiled and reached for a tricorder, then started to scan her.

"Hey doc," Amanda greeted the 3 limbed Lieutenant now running the department rather than Allyndra. "Popped my arm again. My own fault, overdid it a little in the gym."

"Very well... then you should stop overdoing it at the gym." The Edosian gave a large toothy grin. His people's sense of humor was not for everyone, and yet he tried to put people at ease with it. As he picked up the tricorder he spoke again. "Now lets have a look. Right a pretty mean dislocation this time. I can get it back into place and perhaps make it so this does not happen as often. However, if you want to go away permanently you may need a minor surgery, which would relieve you of duty for about two weeks as you recover. But that is something you can think about and get back to me about."

Amanda scoffed slightly "You think you can do what starfleet medical couldn't in more than six months of surgeries....with all due respect Sir. Good luck with that, I nearly lost this arm completely."

"I said may need. I would need to of course look over all the records and perform some tests myself. But off the hip as it were it may be possible to shave the bone a tad and recind the nerves which should allow for normal use with little to no pain. If you consent I could at the very least perform the tests and then we can reevaluate your case together." Nusien smiled as if he did figure out something no one else did then he was extremely proud of himself.

"A little pain here and there reminds me I'm alive." Amanda remarked. "My arm still works pretty good I just need to rebuild my strength, sometimes my phaser rifle feels so heavy I can barely hold it."

"That could be muscle deficiency being caused by any number of things. Pain may remind you that you are alive. However, it is excrutiatingly bad for the body as a whole. The more we talk the more I think you may need to change your regiment." Nusien spoke softly but matter of factly. He thought that he would have to keep an eye on her. People who were pain junkies could become problems down the road. She may need help.

"I spent nearly 9 months unable to use this arm entirely thanks to the initial injuries and a few dozen surgery recovery periods, I had to learn how to use my other hand for everything, we all knew there would be some muscle degradation," Amanda told him what she'd heard from the countless doctors she'd seen from over her time.

"I feel that over the near future we may be able to explore options to rid you of this pain. Further we could restore most of the original use. But it would be a long process and you would have to fully commit. I know that other doctor's may have said this or something similar. However, other doctor's are not as well versed in joint related injuries as I am." Fact was Nusien being Edosian made him one of the leading doctors in joint and related injuries.

"A bunch of the doctors suggested removing my arm entirely and replacing it with a prosthetic, I didn't want that. Yeah my recovery would have been so much quicker but I wouldn't feel me." Amanda gripped her injured arm with her good hand. "I'm about ready to have this back in its hole if you can."

"Very well..." Nusien replied and prepped a hypospray. "This is just something for the pain." He placed the hypospray to her neck and allowed the medication to fuse into her system. The doctor waited a moment or two to allow the medication to take effect. "Now, I am going to count to three and place it back in the socket. One... Two... Three." Right after three Nusien placed one hand on her shoulder while pushing her arm with the other two hands. The arm fell back into the socket with a slight jerk. He then took the osteogenerator off the cart. "This will help the bones and tendons heal." He passed the tool over the area and a moment later spoke again. "There I believe the saying is good as new."

Even with the painkillers coursing through her system and a lot of bracing herself Amanda still yelled in pain as her arm was relocated but the pain was blessedly brief. "It will never be good as new but you got it back in a lot quicker than last time it came out."

"Then I will take that as a compliment." Nusien smiled. "Now, please do not strain or overdue it for at least the next week. It could reinjure."

"I promise nothing Sir..." Amanda said with a small chuckle. "I'm hoping now we're back at Regula one we can get a little shoreleave, with Tarin confiscating everyone drop of alcohol on the ship I think almost everyone will be hitting up the bar on the station."

That was yet something else that Nusien did not fully understand, the need for alcohol. With synthahol so readily available he did not understand why someone would want to impair themselves. Nevertheless it may not be for him to fully understand. "Well, let us hope that I won't have to confine you to quarters." Nusien attempted a joke and when he realized that it did not come across as a joke he smiled and tried to clarify. "Ensign I am kidding. Please do try your best to not strain it."

"I will do my best but it's more prone to dislocating since that injury, most of the time I can get it back in by myself." Amanda said, if he'd tried to confine her to sickbay she'd be breaking the door down the moment she heard they were getting shoreleave.

"You do that." Nusien said with a smile. He knew that no matter what he said she would do what she wanted. He would most likely see her again in Sick Bay.

Slipping off the biobed Amanda gingerly flexed her newly relocated arm, it felt good but how it'd feel when the painkillers wore off would be another question. "Thank you for your help doctor."
