ON:
The doors to Sickbay opened and Mimi headed inside looking for Allyndra, she had so many things she wanted to talk to her friend about after her evenings wedding planning with John.
Crewman Davidson looked up from where he knelt examining a biobed when the sickbay doors opened, seeing the single golden pip at the feline woman's neck he quickly stood and came to attention. "Can I help you Ma'am?" He asked.
"I am looking for Commander Warraquim, have you seen her?" Mimi asked, surprised that she didn't appear to be in her usual haunt of sickbay at the normal time she should be there, even the level of her scent in the room was less than usual.
"I haven't Ma'am, chief Becker is running sickbay currently." Davidson replied.
Mimi let out a hmmm, "Thank you Crewman, carry on." She turned and headed for the door. "Computer locate Commander Warraquim." She called out to the computer after the door closed behind her.
"Commander Warraquim is in her quarters." The computer replied.
Mimi tapped her combadge. =/\= Mimi to Warraquim.=/\=
=^=Yes. What can I help you with?=^=
=/\= Can I come to your quarters? I would like to talk with you for a while.=/\=
Allyndra was puzzled but she had a little bit of time and perhaps a relaxing or she hoped it would be, relaxing bit of conversation would be appreciated. =^=Of course. Come on in when you get here, the door will be unlocked.=^=
=/\= On my way =/\= Mimi replied and took off down the corridor and into a turbolift to deck 1. The short ride up 2 decks didn't take very long and she quickly found herself outside Allyndra's quarters, the door unlocked as the Akkadian woman had said she stepped inside. "Lumela Allyndra."
"Hey, Lumela." Allyndra waved from the couch.
"How are you settling into your new position?" Mimi asked. "Second in command is a big change from chief medical officer."
Allyndra blew out a breath. "I am not sure settling is the correct word. Overwhelmed perhaps. It was unexpected, but I think that with Commander Blake's departure it was the logical step for the captain to take." She chuckled momentarily. "I have been doing mostly paperwork than medicine for quite a bit, so perhaps not too much difference in the job." She sighed. "I think I have forgotten most of what you tried to teach me, so let's get started. Oh! Once more, congratulations, my friend on an upcoming wedding."
Mimi smiled. "Thanks, that is why I am here actually." She took a breath. "I want to ask you if you would be the one to walk me down the aisle... and to perform some Nekomi parts of the ceremony."
Allyndra indicated the couch with a sweep of her hand. "I would be happy to. Let me guess, one reason you are here and to get me up to speed on the language?"
Mimi's smile became even broader when Allyndra said she would. "It might be easier on the crew to have you say the words in English," She said as she sat down alongside her. "Hearing them in Nekomi would be great but we would have to give the crew a translation anyway."
"There are universal translators, but I understand. I suppose we can possibly do a little in some? I think it would add to the ceremony."
Nodding slightly Mimi agreed, while the translations would be for the crew's sake to hear the words in her own tongue at the moment of her wedding would be once in a lifetime, even if they weren't spoken by a Nekomi. "The words while you fasten our arms together are long and complicated but to hear the final blessing in my language would be very nice."
"Then that will be the plan. We will ensure the universal is up to speed so the rest can understand." Allyndra took a deep breath. "So, let's get started so I can say them correctly."
"I am not sure if I can remember all the words for the binding ceremony but it has lines that translate to the various colours on the Tushar cloth having different meanings and the way it is tied representing the bonds we have and things like." Mimi began to explain, she'd been at several Nekomi weddings but that was over a decade ago. "But the final line is 'Miat pata izan beti runga andar strana'" She said the final Nekomi words slowly unsure if Allyndra would remember those words.
"We are going to have to go slow. Wait a moment." Allyndra got up and went to grab a PaDD. "Here, repeat them while I record, then I can practise without constantly having to call you."
Mimi waited while Allyndra grabbed the Padd, when she signalled she repeated the phrase."'Miat pata izan beti runga andar strana' it translates to may fate be always on your side."
Allyndra nodded and picked up the PaDD and studied the words. For some reason she thought of a tune and instead of reading them she sang them. "Sorry." She set the writing down. "I don't know what came over me."
"Your singing voice is lovely, Allyndra," Mimi said after she had finished. "I might have to try and teach you a song, see how it sounds."
"I would like that. Sorry, it just felt more natural to sing it."
Mimi shook her head slightly. "Do not apologise, to some I tried to teach my language to it sounded.... rough and harsh when they spoke it, in your voice it sounds so smooth and beautiful."
"I would still need to practise some. So, speaking of which, do we have a time and place set yet?"
"Not yet, we are still waiting for Captain Ha... Tarin," Mimi caught herself just in time remembering she was talking to a friend but also the ship's second in command. "to let us know when we can, hopefully the next time we get a few days of shore leave. So I thought we should try and get everything planned and ready in case all we get is a few days."
"I will see if I can find out what is next. So far, other than a quick meet and offer, there has not been time for the captain to share what orders we might have yet. I suspect considering our shape and taking on new personnel, we might be at the station for a little time, so go ahead and start making your plans. As soon as I get anything, I will let you know, but if it is before a ship wide announcement, then it is private between us."
"I promise I will keep it secret." Mimi said with a smile.
"Good. As you know I have not worked with the captain that extensively, thus I am sure that there will be some time as we figure our way around each other. I suspect my background does not fit with her view of command structure since I have been a medical officer in one capacity or another almost my entire career and certainly far from the marine background she has had." Allyndra chuckled in her musical way. "Who knows, this job might be short lived."
"You will do fine Allyndra, someone with a medical background in command might be good." Mimi said then quickly added. "You can remind her we are flesh and blood not machines."
"What is it that the marines say? Suffering and pain is weakness leaving the body or some such thing." Allyndra chuckled. "I agree, but I think before I go head-butting too fast, I need to make sure that I have at least warmed the chair for a little bit. My first priority though is seeing if I can ferret out what our next assignment will be so that we have a possible window for you and John." Allyndra frowned a moment. "Considering that we do have a history of being on call a lot, you realise that the holodeck might be your only getaway for a honeymoon."
"Yeah, that may be the case." Mimi said with a slightly resigned voice, it was definitely the more likely option. "We are hoping that we might be able to do it on one of our stop offs here, whenever we get the shore leave we were expecting when we got here the first time."
"Once I get settled in a little more and find out, we might have one of these informal sessions and I can fill you in."
"We will just have to wait and see." Mimi replied, her previously slightly resigned voice becoming more joyful. "Do you have the time for another proper language lesson today?"
"I think I do. So lead on teacher. What is next?"
Mimi pondered for a few moments. "We could do telling time and morning, night and that sort of thing. It is good numbers practice, Kemi only had a twenty hour day which the adults said took a lot of time to adapt to."
"Oh that is a good idea. The few that try to learn my language hate the numbers as they are so similar for example: 'two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine are ʻelua ʻekolu ʻehā ʻelima ʻeono ʻehiku ʻewalu ʻeiwa.'" She chuckled. "They have such a close sound.
"I am still struggling to learn english in places, I think trying to learn Akkadian would be even harder." Mimi remarked, she could definitely tell how people got confused with Allyndra's language.
"It is so much easier when you are brought up with it, right? Anyway, let's get some more done. I need to be proficient enough to not look like a total idiot."
